The ability to upload avatar images to the Saxperience server, for use in the sax-p forums is a very handy option, which is available to all Saxperience Premium Members.
Currently this service allows you to instantly upload Avatar images of the following formats... JPG, JPEG, GIF and PNG.
The current upload limit per avatar image is 60kb. This file size should be more than adequate to display a decent quality Avatar image, provided you use a sensible image size. If your Avatar image is larger than 60kb, the upload will not proceed.
Avatar image size
Ideally, your Avatar image should be sized 120 pixels wide and 120 pixels tall. If your Avatar image is bigger than these dimensions the forum code will attempt to shrink your image to suit. This can lead to distorted images being displayed and also slows down the page loading time for all forum users. Please try to resize your images before using them in the forum.
If your avatar image is larger than 60kb in file size, or if the image is larger than 120x120 pixels you can resize the image using image editing software, for example Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Paint, etc.
You can also resize images online using a free image resizing service such as http://www.resize2mail.com/.
OK, so how do I upload my Avatar image?
To upload your Avatar image you need to edit your user profile. To do this browse to the 'Profile' area, then click the 'Public Profile' button.
Towards the centre of the screen you will see a green button, marked "upload", Click this button then follow the on screen instructions... Firstly you will be asked to browse to the image you would like to upload. Once you have identified the image on your computers hard drive or CD-Rom, etc, click 'OK'. The image path will be displayed within the pop up window.
Click 'OK' A message will then pop up saying 'Please be patient whilse the image is uploading to the server'. Click 'OK' once more...
The image will then upload to the sax-p server in the background. If you have a fast internet connection, this should take no more than a few seconds.
It's as simple as that!
The image URL will automatically be entered into the correct field on the Public Profile page. The image you have uploaded will also be displayed in the 'Preview' window.
Once the image has been uploaded and you are happy with your chosen Avatar image you MUST click the 'Save' button to ensure your new settings are stored correctly.
I hope you find the Avatar upload facility useful...
