I think you all need to define what a hot hatch is as some of the above cars are certainly not :D
The escort cossie is not a hot hatch and the corrado v6 is definitely a coupe.
You have to look at the originals to properly define them and i think its these:
1. Has to be based on a lesser model (rules out cossie as only the doors, roof and rear hatch are the same.)
2. Has to be cheap to buy (new) and build (rules out cossie and vr6 and most new so called hot hatches )
3. Has to stand out from its lesser bretheren in handling and performance but still be a practical everyday drive, including i think fuel consumption.
Basically its a performance car for the masses, not a fire belching 4x4 rally car or large capacity v6. Look at what are regarded as the originals for what a hot hatch is, Golf gti Mk1 and 2, Pug 205 and Clio Williams, Pug 106/saxo and 306 gti-6.
See you have to ask why the Lotus Sunbeam was not regarded as the first hot hatch, and a 2.2litre engine plus RWD tells you something...

I agree to a certain exstent but the 3.0 v6 clio was significantly different to the rest of the clio range,. 3.0 V6 engine, wide sexy body ect ect

Bigger brakes
Better aerodynamics
18" Alloys with Run-flats
Plenty of weight saving
Where a normal JCW 210 musters 210bhp at 6,950rpm and 245Nm at 4,500rpm, the GP is good for 218bhp at 7,100rpm, 150rpm higher up the rev band. Torque is also up to 250Nm at 4,600rpm. In ideal conditions, the GP gobbles up the 0-60mph sprint in 6.2 seconds and tops out at 146mph
