Just went to move my car and found it really hard to move the steering wheel. Feels worse than not having power steering!!! The car has been stood around for 2 weeks because i went on holiday and left my car at work. Could this be why? Anyone no what might be wrong?

Rep for help :y:

Power steering pump might be broken/empty :y:

That happened to mine.. ended up needing a new alternator. The power steering is electrical iirc.

I can only just steer it. It's sooooooo much heavier than normal :n:

Was that costly?

lol, you obviously havent had a base model sax hehe. Sounds to me like power steering pump or something along those lines but also check:

PAS oil
Check ball joints and track rod ends for seizure

also might be worth checking the PAS fuse :y:

It wasnt crippling but could have done without it, I think it might have been £120 fitted but thats a guess as its a long time ago.

I drove it yesterday and it was fine, The only thing i've done to it since is take the old backbox off and try to replace it with a new one but that didn't fit so i had to put the old one back on. Surely that's nothing to do with it?

It doesn't say in the handbook what fuse it is so i checked them all but still no luck. If you find out the problem please let me know. I'm fed up with things going wrong!!!!:panic:

Ok, so i've just been to test the blowers and the rear demister and they're both working. I've checked every fuse i've got, so what should i check next?

I've been told by a few people to hit/tap the power steering pump with a hammer because something might be stuck. Should i do it with the engine running or leave it off?

May die out again, just keep giving it a little tap.

I kept doing this until it eventually died completely, just bought a reconditioned one from ebay and it's been fine ever since.
