Hi
im new here and iv been arguing with the parents (mainly my dad) about me getting 17s for my saxo...
iv overcome 1 hurdle by makeing sure they fit (universal)... but there is problems like rubbing... and the strut bars on the rear of the car...
can any 1 help me out my telling me if they will rub/cause problems...
i havent bought them yet as im going to halfords soon to see about them and i dont want to get 15" or 16" 15" are to small in my eyes and im not sure about 16"

here is a pic of my saxo atm (dont laff im only 17 and just started :D i like it)
thanks for ur replys

I think 17's will rub on a 1.1 at the back with it having the flat arch, but I believe you can have the arch rolled to make them fit. Personally I wouldnt bother with them they be a waste on money on a 1.1 and make it handle like poo mate.

You wont get 17s on a base model without a shit load of work mate. And without some form of bodykit theyll look stupidly large imo.16s are a good choice and easier to work with, altho anythin bigger than 15's on a base model and youll need arch work. Check out Snewhams progress thread for info

ive got 17"rims mate lowered 60mm allround. and they used to rub really badly. but i done all the arch work myself and its fine now. you would have to remove all the inner arches and cut bits off here and there to make it work without rubbing.

The rear arches on base models are a lot tighter than VT ones

thx for help ppl another problem is that my car is a ****ing 3 stud whish is annoying to get alloys for... its either 3 stud and never any good styles... or universal which needs 2 be 9stud... (thats the only 1s i have calculated them to fit for atm...)

i duno how much it could cost to get 1 of these things that convert them from 3-4 stud

but ill see whats what

btw NOOO i will not rip out my tints me and my dad put in out selfs
btw u shld see the front and back window LOL it has a blue sunstrip with saxo cut out and the cutout saxo stuck on back window LOL
posts pics ^^ SELF MADE BTW !!!!!
and the little blue smart roadster is my dads car heh hes doing it up also (trying to feel young again i think :ponder:

Personally mate i wouldnt bother with the alloys. You will struggle to find 3 stud and 17's way to big for a 1.1. Oh and it would look miles better without them tints and sunstrips.

oh jesus them sticker things look terrible and honestly the tints look tacky mate

17s will fit but the arches being flat on the rear will need a lot of work, if you want the alloys to appear bigger than they are, get alloys with the spokes that go right to the edge of the wheel

also with it lowered it will look nice on 15s

To be honest, 17s will be too big for a car like yours, IMO. Might attract attention at car park meetings but the ride will be nasty, turning circle and overall agility will be restricted, performance will be impaired, and your speedo will read even more wrongly than it does already. I have a VTS myself and I wouldn't even dream of going any higher than 16s. I'm on standard S 15s at the mo and loving them. But if your heart is set on them, be prepared to do some arch work/ brake adjustment.
EDIT- as pred said, will look better lowered on 15s. Wayy better. Without the tints ;)

i dont understand what them tints are all about...i thought it was something inside the car over the window..and them sunstrip things are hidious...i say stick to 15"s they look good...17's on a base model seems silly tbh..but what ever floats your boat!

Right I have to agree with the majority here, remove the tints as it makes your saxo look like a van. If you're going for a red and blue theme keep the strip but sunstrips in saxo's usually look a tad naff.

To be honest mate smoke your headlights, maybe some angel eyes (out of price range?) keep the clear side repeaters, may as well de-wiper as cap has gone missing. Get some new door mirrors try to colour code or take them off and spray them like the VTR ones (good luck with that) go for a red and black theme so spray your badges black and your car will be looking top class mate. :y:

17s will be too big imo, and even if you go smaller its not just the size you need to worry about. You need to make sure the offset is the same or lower (? i think) otherwise the curve of the wheels mean it could rub on the suspension struts.

I'd convert to 4 stud hubs then fit some white 106 Rallye steels. 6 x 14s about £35 per wheel and look the business. Light as also!

17s won't go on without a fair amount of work and you'll find they'll ruin the handling

dnt put 17s on it pal dnt ruin it, remove sunstrips and tint will cost nothing remove 6x9s will cost nothing and put 15s on it my mate has 16s on hiswith vts kit and arches cut and that rubs, any saxo in my opinion with 17s on it looks realy stupid unless its has sum major bodywork.

5th September 2007, 14:09

5th September 2007, 20:13
if your old man going on about the wheels being inside the arches go and get a vtr kit put on then you have bigger arches = more room for wheels and will look much better!!!! get rid of the 6x9s!!! and the window tints

Mate do not buy 17's. You would have to have arch work done on your car, it ain't worth the hassle plus they will look shite! When it comes to buying new tyres you won't know what hit you, my mate has 17's on his 306 and he pays £100 a corner! They would only suit a car that had a bodykit. I wouldn't go any bigger than 15's for the car you have, for your age you don't wanna have the hassle of buying a lot of expensive stuff cos you won't have the money to be able to replace anything if something goes wrong. Maybe buy a VT kit and spray it if you can stretch that far. But don't do anymore! And for the love of god, get rid of those tints! LOL

Good Luck!!

Cheers

Crunkers
5th September 2007, 21:24
Exactly what I was thinking! LOL, shouldn't be moulded to the bloody window unless you've made a complete muck up of them
