View Full Version : Quick Thinking....

Hey guys/gals, i need quick advice and thoughts/opinions on what others would do... Iv asked my mum who just looks at me blank and shrugs saying its upto you, then walks off in a huff when i ask for a proper answer,

Iv also asked my sister who told me to go for the money... and not the job, but any input is great :)

Right I have been for my second interview for a job as assistant accountant at a property developers office, Now this allows me to do 1 day at college, which iv already got a place at doing my AAT (accounting qualification thingy). The guy seemed to be pretty confident about his decision which is going to be made tomorrow (at some point and is going to email me to say if iv got the job or not).

Now i havent told my current boss about the interviews because..
1. There was 80 candidates and i didnt think id get this far,
2. Im trying/looking to move in a few months
3. Because i do like the job im in now, and it pays well

But what do i do, Do i tell karen (my boss) That i have been for a job and there letting me know tomorrow, or do i reject the job as it pays just under
£4k less..

Decision comes quick , i have a weeks notice to work at work, but college starts in 1 week to.. (This is going on if i get the job btw, im not big headed in thinking i have got it lol)

But then at the new job i will get a days leave and have the chance to pay rises on every part of college completed.

I have also got to think is there any point wasting the companys time as i dont intend to stay that long, or do i just keep quiet and have it as relevent experience for the job i am looking for in notts....

I would also get a 3 month period to see if the jobs right for me ect and can always change my mind.. Its just the money aspect thats worrying me, atm i can afford to move out and be able to afford bills ect nicely, and the money i am earning is just being saved so when i do move out its there just incase anything goes wrong..

But the wages at new job will be considerably less, which means less money saved, less chance of being able to afford a washing machine lol also have the car to run from the wages ect and going out and stuff..

Basically i havent an idea what to do, and it sucks!!

Just like to know what others would do?? sorry its a huge read but im really stuck and knowone who really has an idea on giving advice on this stuff lol..

Thanks :y:

Is there pay rises available at your current job?, if not I would consider the new job as there is a guranteed pay rise throughout, will you eventually be on more money than your current job in say 1year? It is a tough decision though.

half of that didnt seem to make sense to me, whats your current job? end of the day you havnt been offered this job have you? end of the day you take a job if you "want it" dont think of 3 month experience as theres nout to say youd get a job after that you could be years without a job if you leave then your screwed! think of the future not the present and what you earn rite now

Its the future that im thinking of... the part that im moving out ( about 60 miles to where i am currently) do i swap to a job id love to do and work towards what i want to do for a little time which may give me a bit of an advantage as its a little bit of experience or do i stick with the job im doing .. which is reservations agent, working with hotels and companies/contractors.

and sorry its so confusing but this is why im posting it up here, because it confuses me.. and im the one having to try and unconfuse the situation...

Just sat down an chatted over dinner.. very civilised.. dad said not to bother and i think im thinking the same, whats point of college for 3 months max.... and still being down on cash for moving out, its just pointless.

Mums not happy and thinks i should take it if i get it, and sister just sees £s signs an is already wanting my current job

still really confused though.. not sure what to do still because its a job i realllly want to do

I personally would tell your present boss that you have been offered a new job that allows you to study for an accounting qualification... then hint that you would prefer to stay at your present place, but would they fork out for you to take the course as it it benificial.

Chris :)

I agree with Chris. If your current company is not willing to support your career aspirations then you should certainly consider this new position. £4k a year may seem a lot now, but in the next few years and with accountancy qualifications under your belt, you will begin to reap the rewards.

Good luck...

I applied for a new job that was 5k more than previous.

I took the offer of acceptance from the new job to my old job (which i enjoyed) and said can you match that salary...

They said no, i said bye.
