Please use the search function mate. This has been well documented, many, many times.

Yes your management light would come on. You need to put the lamdba in a sleeve.

search i covered this a week ago or so.
Just unplug the sensor under the car, dont bother unscrewing it from the cat there is just no joy at all.
Mine i just unplugged the sensor which goes to the cat, yo will see a blue plug, pull the red clip out to get it apart, put a food back over the 2nd part of the plug which is still on the car to stop water getting in.
tie all that up nice and neat.
put cat pipe cat on, the orange engine light will come on the dash after a few good miles, but so fuck its an orange light:homme:

Well i had a custom de-cat pipe made and fitted for me and about a week later then engine mangement light come on - I had a diagnosis for this and the lambda sensor was showing as a problem and i cant see how because the sensor is nice and snug in a fitted sleeve. any ideas y this is a problem??

They are really troublesome things these... I've had issues with mine, and I was like yourself, having had the sensor completely seperate from the exhaust system.
I would suggest a new sensor, and make sure the sleeve is REALLY tight (even use some sealant) around the sensor.

surely the light comes on anyway with de-cat as the sensors job is to check the emissions? :p

Nice try! ;) ...But you can't teach an old dog new tricks. :p
The only reason the engine check light comes on, is because the sensor is taking readings from gasses which have not passed through a CAT. The sleeve simlpy doesn't allow the sensor to pick up any emisssions, hence, it won't actually report this as a fault to the ECU. :)
