Right, I have a 52mm guage that Im trying to wire up. There are 3 wires coming of the back of the guage, 1 earth(brown) and 2 lives(red).
I have got the wires on the back of the cigarette lighter ready to be spliced into but I havent really got a clue what wire should go where.
can anyone help?
thanks

1 of the lives will probably be for the back light.
Cant remember the colours of the cig lighter but i remember the earth being the thick one. After that just wire the two lives to the cig lighter, one of them will go to the small light that lights up on the lighter. Test and see if you have them the right way, if not swap them.
Not got a multimeter/bulbtester?

ok well I've wired the live to the small fusebox in the engine and earthed to the car. The guage works now but I still have another wire which I assume is the backlight as you said.
What do I do with this? I tried to go into the sidelights but I just blew a fuse lol :(
thanks for help

ok,
I was thinking of the one that turns the light on for it.

hmm well I replaced the fuse and wiring the 3rd wire to the cig lighter seems to have no effect no matter what wire. I have 2 guages so I'm sure that it can't be faulty. :S

I've just looked into it a bit more and I think that's what it is. Thanks ever so much for the help, much appreciated lol. There isn't a backlight on this guage, :P

on mine its one for earth, one for live to get the voltage and one for a dimmer feature, when you put the sidelights on they dim down a bit :y:

yeh it's sorted now, they're all wired up. I just need to find where to wire the signal wire for the water temp guage now. Any ideas? I'm going to have the dials out tomorrow because I'm sure that I can splice into the wire going to the dials that shows water temp on the dials?
am I right?
lol cheers pred
