View Full Version : Want to add in rear speakers...

Hey,
I'm looking to add some rear speakers into my car setup. I currently have a 4 channel JBL amp which has the front components running off the front 2 channels and the sub bridged over the rear 2.
Now I want to upgrade the rear 10cm ones and wire them up. How would I go about wiring them up to my current amp? Could I just chuck them on the same terminals as the front 2? Or would I have to buy another amp?
Also is it ok to get coaxials for the rears or would it best to have components again? Can anyone recommend some?
Cheers!

I think you will need to buy a mono amp for your sub if you are wanting to wire some new rear speakers up to your current amp.
But really as a Saxo is a small car components amped up front and a Sub in the boot is great, you don't really need rear speakers.

tbh mate you would be much better disconnecting them, you really dont need rear speakers in a car of this size

Unless you have people in the back alot it makes a big difference for them.
I got given some decent 10cm speakers for free the other day so i whacked em in, but theyre well quiet cus of the low power feed :(

Haha I knew you would reply with that! :p
Although it sounds very good with just the front speakers wired up I usually have people in the back and it's not so good for them, I also prefer the more "whole" sound rear speakers give.

Can anyone recommend a mono amp to power my sub? (JBL GT4-12) I want to get the best out of it...
Cheers
Edit: According to my amp specs my sub its getting 284W RMS. My sub specs state that its 250W RMS and 1000w peak, does this mean my sub is getting enough power or should I give it more?

I have the option to change my amp to the 6 channel one for free so I'm just going to do that.
Now what I really need is recommendations on 10cm coaxial speakers...:y:

Got a little question:
Could the amp in the HU be used in conjunction with my standalone amp? Or is it either one or the other?

I'll put it another way; Could I run the rears off the headunit and the fronts off the amp in the boot?

Yes just replace the speakers and use the wirers which are already there which were connect to the old rear speakers.

But would they both work at the same time? I suppose that's down to my HU...

Yes they would. I've got My front components amped up and My rears are running direct off the HU. I do have people in the rear of my car so I just have them low im relation to the components.

yes they would work at the same time just you will hear the fronts a hell of a lot more than the rears

I think it makes a diffrence adds to the sound quality. Im picking some up later for the back. The standard ones frog like crazy.
Also, it makes the vocals easyer to hear if you have a powerful sub and amplifier. You cant just have like 100% bass. You need a nice balance between the bass and the vocals or your music sounds pants.

really dont need need them in a car the size of a saxo bud, remember its you that listens to the music therefore in the front is the best place for speakers, passengers should be able to hear things good if there amped components and set up right, in other case to hell with the passengers :)

Yea, but the rear component speakers frog a lot when theres a lot of bass in a song.
I ushually set the FAD to +10 so no sound comes out of them.

set them up properly and people in the rear will hear them easy. i cant remember my settings but will have a look when i get home im in chicago atm. but i have them setup so thay are playing high pitched so thay dont distort at high volume mine are so loud people hate being sat in my car front or back because its so loud but still clear and it doesnt distort let the comps deal with high pitched vocals ect and let the sub play the bass only shit thing with having it setup this way in treble isnt too good but with a decent sub shouldnt be a problem
