be gentle its my first time fabricating anything.

basic box with temp display and 2x80mm fans at front and 1 80mm at rear and window in the top with led fans and a hidden neon tube.

the base is 1inch thick mdf and the sides are plywood

the base had motherboard pillars/risers screwed into it and the mobo sits on those the same as a normal case.

the sides were initially screwed in then fibreglassed to re-inforce it

these are the first pics i had taken when the front and back fan holes and the temp display

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/teeach/DSCF1630.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/teeach/DSCF1631.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/teeach/DSCF1632.jpg

test fitted the fans etc with a little bit of carpet i had bought and they were a nice fit so onto the carpeting.

I thought this was going to be easy but i was wrong. Damn it was annoying trying to work it out so there wasnt any folds etc because ot the diagonal front

still isnt perfect but its ok, it is trimmed in the same carpet that i have for my boot install which should be fun...... not!!

heres a pic of it carpeted with some old fans (awaiting on my led ones)
they are in the wrong way so they are blowing and not sucking and look crud but that will be rectified when my new ones come

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/teeach/DSCF1633-1.jpg

Window

Heres a pic with the temp display on and functioning
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/teeach/DSCF1635.jpg

another of the side of the case with the i/o panel
crud picture i thin i put a fingerprint on the lens
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/teeach/DSCF1638.jpg

as you can probably tell im new to this.. any tips feedback is appreciated

will get pics up of the new fans and lighting when they arrive

id have some vent type slots in there though, or even just some in the perspex to help the airflow a bit more

Qucifer666
23rd September 2007, 22:46
that looks really kool dude. where are you going to put it tho?? in the boot?

Danhunt
23rd September 2007, 22:48
what spec is it running?

blusax
23rd September 2007, 23:18
its going in the boot between 2 subs, i have bought and installed a damper kit for the hdd and many people on a car pc forum have said the vibration shouldnt be an issue with the hdd. the window is actually glass. its a 1.5ghz 180gb hdd and 512mb ram. still to come is the gps reciever & antenna, wifi and bluetooth.

i think the cooling should be adequate with 2 sucking in(front) and one blowing(rear) but i will let you know how it goes

hopefully the fans will come tomorrow and i'll get some better pics, i'll try cleaning the lens(havent used it for ages)

i then gotta fab the in dash mount which needs to be removable im thinkking of the space where the keypad used to be ie from the base of the gear stick on a 45 degree angle, if that cant be done the the vents will have to come out or relocation of the buttons and installed like this but removable

Thats cool, But i would have used a MiniITX mobo, Would be alot smaller and use less power.

http://www.mini-itx.com/

blusax
26th September 2007, 00:10
i had it here laying around.

the space isnt an issue for me as theres a bootbuild going in.

im also putting in a tank circuit for the battery, the powersupply i have just bought wont let the battery die

but yes most people use the minitx boards

so far it has only cost me 100 quid including the 7" touchscreen, i only need a couple of cables now

when i saw it at the top i thought it was gonna be shit but now that its pretty much finished it looke really sweet

but if your getting a touchscreen why would you need a keyboard?

keep it up mate it will be awesome when your done

blusax
1st October 2007, 11:13
keyboard? i did mention the keypad for the immobiliser which is where i was going to mount the screen but i've changed my mind and it will be moulded into the dash.

Predator_R32

getting there mate

i was going to say how the hell will you get a keyboard in the coin tray

blusax
7th October 2007, 23:51
bit of a little change now going for this design as i measured it all up today and the mono block is wuite large so teh 75.2 is going to be hidden. the sub boxes will sit on the bottom layer of mdf and the top will be cut to fit around them if you catch my drift.

screen will be here in the week so the fabrication of the dash installation soon

blusax
8th October 2007, 01:16
chav mobile!! i spent nearly 4k on that car. if you want to see a chav machine you should see the saxo i had before my current one, im not goign to post a pic but lets just say mahoosive bumpers, twin exit exhaust and sprayed in a goldish colour. oh and it was a 1.1 (hides). believe it or not the system in the corsa cost me around 1k twas about 4-5yrs ago though.

ah and i forgot the new plan

will get some pics of the vtr up soon and its standard as the day it left the factory

lookin nice. i would build a comp to go in my car but the 15" sub and the amp next to it uses the whole boot up.

Paul
18th October 2007, 17:13
I've been thinking of doing this for a while as i am a computer engineer. But i wouldnt have a clue how to do all the wiring of the car. Building the computer to fit in the back and everything would be easy for me. As i have good access to all the parts. Going to search the internet now and see how hard it would be..

Thanks for inspiration, and yours looks really good :y: Repped.

Love the center console works well .

blusax
23rd October 2007, 23:17
its a monitor for a pc just keep your eye out on ebay for a 7" touchscreen with vga connection.

a normal pc will do but most people got for mini atx so they can fit it in glove box etc but room isnt an issue for me.

also people tend go for silent systems ie. fanless this option will lower the spec of your pc unless you plow cash into it. a silent system is about 90quid and it will bee around the 1ghz mark, but that should be enough to play music and run gps at the same time.

one of the most important parts is the dc-dc power supply. the one i will go for is the m2-atx. it irons out the voltage and current etc it also has a ignition status etc.. ie pc comes on when you turn ignition on.

for a fornt end i would recommend roadrunner, i'll get some screen shots of it in a bit

if you want any more info feel free to ask

blusax

24th October 2007, 01:59
looking good, quick question tho, how do you get the amp running with it?

blusax
24th October 2007, 02:05
the m2 atx has a remote lkead like a head unit. then you just use a 2.5 jack from pc to phonos and plug them in as usual. my board has 5.1 as standard so i will have 2 leads, 1 for the sub out and another for the fronts. i will be running 2 amplifiers.

DJsaxo
24th October 2007, 09:37

pics are in my thread.

Using roadrunner too

blusax
24th October 2007, 22:34
removable screen was my plan but its so tricky to carry off that is done quite well. i have made a cover for mine and i have a decent alarm. its cost me the grand total of around 110quid at the mo for the pc side

screen £80
console £10
filler £5
sprays etc £7

i had the pc bits etc all i need now is abou 10quid of cables and the m2 atx which is £50

the amp has been the dearest so far at 160quid

blusax
24th October 2007, 22:36

neons now hidden.

slight hitch though, i broke one, put a screw right through it...lol their only about a quid anyway so i'll have to get another one.

you can see the blue better in the flesh, i think the flash cancelled the blue out.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/teeach/DSCF1710.jpg

also now ported on the back

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/teeach/DSCF1713.jpg

wires are a bit messy but i'll sort them out during the week

Predator_R32
9th December 2007, 19:56
hmmmm with the ports there going to be blocked by the seat arent they???

djrem
9th December 2007, 20:06
depends on the angle of the box

blusax
9th December 2007, 20:14
i asked on TA and they said not much air will come out anyway as the port is only 10inch long and to buid the port about 1-2 inches longer which will then bring it to to my desired frequency

Predator_R32
9th December 2007, 20:27
ah well a suppose you can always bring the install forward from the seats a bit

Middle shelf now carpeted, amp is not screwed down in this pic. it is screwed down now and it's straight.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/teeach/DSCF1714.jpg

Left plate is neon control, middle display is pc temp.
I think i'm going to put a hard on/off switch for pc or main amp on the right

1 box is near enough air tight just need a little bit more resin in some places, yes thats a splx sub i bought as the other speaker i had in there wasnt really telling me where air was leaking out, stiill trying to get hold of 2 gt4 10's

blusax

95% done run out of contact adhesive, only the over hangs to chop off and tidy up some bits, yes i have only covered the front and tops, didn't see the point in covering it all as you wont see the sides or back (plus i didn't have enough lol)

when i'm up and running i'm gonna go see a mate who owns a leather sofa company and see if he get one of his workers to cover it for me
