There was a 1.7 TDi which had the 1.9 GTi kit on from the factory
Pretty swift too. A former work colleague had one

1.8 was the one that came from the factory i think
The turbo one is canny quick tbh
if its a 1.9 then is a 306 or 405 engine has been put in it

No one would ever convert a 205 from a 1.8 to a 1.9 D
Check the V5. It'll be a 1.8NA derv
No power but reliable and the 205s steering is fucking great

the one you want is the 205 STDT
It may sound like a sexually transmitted disease but its a really good car. 1.8 turbo diesel with a gti bodykit, usually in metallic green.
To be honest all the old diesels should be fine for a runaround. Get one thats well looked after though

Would definetely be a great runaround and would also have you screaming YABBADABBADOO at a fraction of the fuel costs.
