I've seen that quite a few on here get stupidly low quotes on VTS's at 18, i'm 18 btw lol.
I'd love to own a VTS, can afford to buy and run it, just insurance would be very high... Quote i got a while ago was like 4300.
Can anyone recommend any companies for 18 Year olds, with quinn direct at the moment on my VTR.
I'm
18
Male
0 NCB
Anything else you need to know, ask.:d

Might it have something to do with the fact you don't have a license yet? Have you tried adding one of your parents as a named driver :)
Payney
2nd October 2007, 19:04
I've been putting quotes down for having a licence for a short period, ie a few weeks just to see what quotes i get.
Will have to try putting parents on might give Admiral a ring tomorrow as there site thing is down.
Thanks for advice Kelly. :)

You havent got a licence yet and you are wanting a VTS, lol, Good lad! If only we all could be so focused.

2nd October 2007, 20:52
This might sound daft but insurance on a provisional license is actually much cheaper so even if you do get a good quote its more likely to go up by 50% or higher when you pass

I get quotes and make out i have a license online, to see what quotes are first.

i wasnt taking the piss mate. Sorry if it came across wrong but what i meant was fairplay.

I don't have bills to pay, or i'm not attatched to nothing, so i'd rather get a decent car that i will keep for a while, with VTR's i'll keep wanting to swap, no idea why... Hence why i'm looking for VTS insurance, if i get something cheap enough i will go for it, if not i will wait till next year.

i know how you feel, i have a VTR but i always think shall i upgrade. Will prob be like that untill i get my R34 skyline, in blue of course
Payney
2nd October 2007, 21:46
It will always be like that, after a while of owning a Skyline, you'll want something even more powerful no doubt lol.
My neighbor up the road is a rich fucker and he had an R33 with L plates on, Insurance was 10 grand on it for him lol, so he bought a rover 25 for a year, now he's got a 2.0 turbo MG ZR... Skyline R33 again is next for him.
VTS will do me for a few years, i'll be happy with a VTS.

insurance is higher with a full liscence than a provisional until you get some no claims, as once you pass you will drive unsupervised, it sounds stupid i know but norwich union put mine up £40 when i passed

I had a 1.2 corsa with 4 gears to learn in, lol. Oh and my instructer had a 106, unfortunatly not a gti tho.

personally i wouldnt go for a vts as a first car, ive seen it before people aim to high and go into debt over a car, dont get me wrong i can understand why you would want a vts, but sometimes its better to go with your head and think about what is logical, its it worth an extra £1000 or whatever a year just for a slightly quicker car.

bell insurance mate one year of drivng 0NCB and it cost me 1400 on own TPTF for 98 VTS
Jazz
3rd October 2007, 21:12
i'm 19, on bell, do 8k miles a year (declared), 0 NCB, 1yrs experience and paying £2.1k TPF+T for my standard S. Silly amount, but ah well. If we're rational, little point going for an S under the age of 21, because we youngsters will always get mugged for insuring our VTS's. :(

Due to family issues just coming up doesn't look like i will be affording a VTS, might have to go down to a westie.
Mystic
4th October 2007, 14:49
I'd try Admiral or Bell, they both gave the the best quotes for my VTS when i had just turned 20.
If your adding family members on to your policy, dont add any middle aged males, as they are still treated as a risk.
I have my nana on mine because dispite her being 78 & not driven for 50 years. Insurance deem her a safer driver than my dad who drives minimum of 3 hours a day & has never had an accident ;)
All about age & sex!

I'd probably put my Mum on there, she's been driving 14 years at least and no claims or convictions...

What's the point when you already have a VTR. If you down grade you'll only regret it. I would never go back to driving a 1.1 like I used to have :p
Payney
5th October 2007, 08:03
Depends how much cheaper insurance is tbh... I don't mind down grading to a 1.4 cause they are quite nippy.
1.1 as in your lil pug?;)
Karl
5th October 2007, 08:04
Id downgrade to a VTR if I needed to save money and got a good price for my VTS.

IIRC there's only 2 insurance groups in it so there's no point
Yeah, missing it today for some reason :( still wouldn't down grade though

its not really downgrading though,
think of it as this...
You have a BMW 318, is it really a downgrade to drive a VTS?

How is it not when it's a slower car? All I'm saying is he already has a VTR so why sell it to buy a Furio/Westcoast when the insurance isn't going to be much cheaper :p
Well yeah cos I'd say a beemers in a whole different league to a VTS look-wise.
Karl
5th October 2007, 09:28
what an M reg BMW 318 is nicer looking/better car than a VTS :S
depends what you want out of the car,
me...I love the way a Saxo looks,
i hate the shitty build quality. But the looks and fun of it outweigh the poor build quality, especailly when new parts are v cheap.
Cant get a car with more bang for your buck at 18/19 than a VTR/VTS.
Admittedly i wouldnt buy a Furio after a VTR unless my VTR was old and nackered and the Furio good condish and low miles.
Furios really arent far off a VTR in my previous experiences. + not just the car that makes it quick as James Bristol proves.

the insurance on a westcoast / furio is actually a fair bit cheaper, i rang up my insurance company to see how much extra i would have to pay to upgrade to a vtr or vts. my policy is £650 at the moment a vtr would be £980 and a vts £1200.
so you say the vtr isnt much difference, its nearly half the cost more than my original policy and the vts was nearly double.
also dont forget the other costs you save on my having a 1.4, the road tax and petrol costs are a fair bit cheaper too

Insurance varies with everyone but that's a pretty good quote for your car! Other than that the other costs are less often I wouldn't class that as a worry :y: this is obviously my opinion and others will have a different take on things :)

I pay £1000 on my 1.4 polo which is my own policy. I thought that was quite bad with 1 years named driver no claims :(

Are you with that Direct Line thing, earn no claims on your mums insurance or whatever?
And i see your point about downgrading...;) I don't rag cars tbh, and i could always VTS\VTR the westie after a year or so maybe, not sure what to do right now... Gonna get quotes first. :)
