I recently noticed that there was a rattling noise from my engine bay while the engine was running especially when starting from cold! On closer inspection the rattle seemed to be coming from my cam belt! My car a 99 Treg saxo spree 4 1.0i but only done 35k! Does my cam belt need replacing or is there something else wrong! Any help would be much appreciated!

Will more than likely be from a bearing or one of the cam tensioners best thing to do is get a garage to look and see which bit needs replacing.

Yeah i would get it checked out too. Its not worth risking it, especially because the noise is coming from the cambelt area.

They recommend a cambelt change every 40K even though they can last longer. I would just to be on the safe side.

MINE DOES THIS!!!! (but mines on 131k lol).
It is gradually getting louder too. Problem is take it to a garage and the cars warmed up and not making the noise...Tell me how you cure it please! I found WD40 cures it for a day or so then it comes back again. I want a proper cure!

Its driving me nuts!!!

Also any 1 know:

a)how much it would cost to replace "the bearings"
b) could this be part of the rattling noise i get when engine is underload?

Muchos Gracias

Pulley Bearings come as a kit with new belt. Best to get the whole lot replaced (belt, tensioner etc) and not just belt alone. Had mone done a while back and they replaced the water pump too. Was looking a bit poorly and the cam-belt drives that too - so if the pump seizes the belt goes, the valves go....
Me got a rattly noise at load too. Think it's through exhaust. Might stop pissin about with replacing Cat / centre sect again and go for a sport decat pipe - and get my lower engine mount replaced too as I think that's what's killing bits of my exhaust!!!!

cambelts every 72k, mine makes a rattling noise, found out it was the thrust bearing in the clutch

I only had the cambelt done about 10/20k ago. I think I might have to check the engine mounts too. My clutch could be to blame too as thats not been replaced yet lol. shite might just buy a new car lol

Anybody have any idea of costs for having cambelt pulley bearings replaced?

Was it not done when you got the belt replaced, or you talking about the cam pulley bearings? Doubt v.much they are at fault unless belt tension is off the scale! Fitting new Belt kit (inc tensioner pulley with bearings in) etc hurt me for about £75 + 2 hrs labour.

Regards the clutch release bearing, that might make sense with my noise coming at around bite or when I rev or drop accelerator - cheers webby, will get it looked at as it sounds like a stupidly common problem, dare say a design fault!
