When you install iTunes it should rip all the music off it onto your comp via iTunes ... I think anyhoo?

if you're on windows,

1. connect your iPod up, but don't open iTunes
2. In My Computer you should see your iPod as a hard drive, double click it and look for a folder called "iPod_control", if you can't see it you will have to go to tools, folder options, click on view and look in the box for the show hidden files and folders option and click apply. you should now see the folder.
3. Inside the "iPod_Control" folder you'll see a lot of folders called "F##" where the # represents a number, each of these folders contains the music on it, so copy and paste them to your computer hard drive.
4. disconnect your ipod
5. You can now open iTunes and import the folders you have just pasted onto your hard drive into your iTunes library
6. reconnect your ipod and it will ask if you'd like to link it to this computer, click yes and it will wipe the ipod, and then put all the songs from your itunes library on it, they're the same songs i know but it just means you can add your music to the library and they will go onto the ipod too.

this is based on the assumption that all the files currently on the ipod have no copyright protection, im sure someone will point out any mistakes if ive made any :)

when itunes opens right click on your ipod in the itunes window and im sure there's iPod options you can go into and it will have a check box saying "open itunes when ipod is connected" or something along those lines, id check for you but i dont have my ipod with me at the minute. you can just close it and copy the folders over, then right click on the remove media icon next to the clock and eject ipod like that then load itunes back up and connect ipod. hope this helps :)
