View Full Version : VTS Rev Query..

I have noticed on my VTS, the limited doesn't kick in until half way into the red, is this normal or has it been played with?

In 2nd gear for instance it doesn't hit the limiter until 7,500rpm and it's well into red by this point.

Advice?

mines the same. the limiter isnt exactly where the redline meets the white, it travels a canny bit into the red before bouncing :)

thinks its supposed to be 7250, but from what everyone is sayin its more like 7500. mine is 7500 but i thought mine had been up'd

Least it's normal then, Adamsax reckoned I just had a very good engine.

I never usually bounce it off limiter, just wanted to test ;)

surely you dont really want to bouncing off the limiter all the time? Whats the peak on saxos? i know its not at the limit lol

its beyond me tbh.

thats why i wouldnt buy a car off someone on a saxo owners club.

Only bounced it off once and I know it won't of been ragged before me either..

I always let the oil temperature reach half first.

Neither would I ;)

Yeah mate I think most of them are like that. My S is totally standard and it gets well into the red before getting to the limiter, about 7500rpm I reckon. Only done it once by mistake though, looked down at my rev counter and couldn't believe it, scared the life out of me, thought my engine would blow lol.. I rarely ever take it passed 6k, even when im hustling on.

lavo-vts
15th October 2007, 21:30
think the engine was tested up to 12,500rpm. so i guess we are all safe, thats why the limiter is there to stop it from blowin up

just on principle for me really.

on standard cam the torque is long gone by that point, just shows (no offence to anyone) silliness on the part of the driver

Is there such a thing as a torque gauge - I'm presuming there must be....

The only ones I've ever come across were at my uni and they SAPPED energy from the transmission drive so it was pointless even measuring it lol

Im a grumpy saxo driver thats all :grr:

Depends how your cars set up to run imo

Because you've gone past peak power by the time you're hitting the limiter. The car has no more pull left plus it sounds retarded hitting the limiter.

mine pulls strong til it hits it. plus if you own a cammed vts like me you would know that it aint very hard to accidently hit it from time 2 time

think he was referring to standard lavo ;)

so what he says (for standard) is right... bouncing off the limiter is utterly utterly gay, wont do the engine any favours, wont do your 'racing' any favours and  most importantly  wont do your fuel consumption any favours.

Yes I was talking about a standard Saxo. Obviously when you go changing major engine parts it becomes a different story!

i have not hit the limiter yet in mine and goes more than half way in the red, but now only take it to 65000rpm seems faster than going into the red :y:

Like I said originally, I don't do it on a regular basis as I feel everyone thinks that. I was just VERY curious to see where it came in, I won't be doing it again now.

Nothing wrong with reving it high. If it was unsafe, the limiter would be lower.

Engine wear happens when the engine is first turned over, and it takes a moment for parts to become lubricated. What I don't like to see, is when people (typically women for whatever reason, lol) start the engine, and begin driving almost before it's started, and then nail it. Bad, bad, bad. Much worse than driving it high in the revs.

i cant say ive ever ever had it bounce off the limiter

couldn't agree more, always let my s warm atleast quarter of the way on oil temp gauge before sticking my foot down a bit :homme:
