what a buntch of knobjockies

it was entertainment for a starters i dont think porche would complain since they had stuff promoted its not like they actually promoted smoking for fk sake and tbh if topgear gets filmed on private land there is fk all they can do anyways.hence why the council did nothing.

PLUS this annoys me LOADS
they bring it all up then finish it off by saying oh we will not fine the BBC we just want the presenters to know what the law is !!!!!!!CHEEKY TWATS!!!!! so all that article is is total rubbish when all they needed to say was right you cant smoke on your own filming set/stage and that should be it.

this will nto go onto BBC news on the TV for if it did the amount of complaints this smoking organisation will get off topgear fans would be unreal (most prob get a message off me saying mind your own business if you dont like topgear dont fking watch it and go watch shitty 5th gear instead you impadentic little pricks) lol.

ahhhhhhh thats my lil rant of this subject now over hahahaha

18th October 2007, 18:38
You could almost guarantee this was going to come up as soon as they lit the pipes up. But it can't be like they didn't want it otherwise i'm sure they would've chopped it out the show.

Wrong I'm afraid;

(2)
Premises are smoke-free if they are used as a place of work—

(a)
by more than one person (even if the persons who work there do so at
different times, or only intermittently), or

(b) where members of the public might attend for the purpose of seeking
or receiving goods or services from the person or persons working
there (even if members of the public are not always present).

They are smoke-free all the time.

..............

(7)
Premises are “open to the public” if the public or a section of the public has access to them,
whether by invitation or not, and whether on payment or not.

Can view the full extent of it here (http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200506/cmbills/069/06069.1-7.html#j501) if you find it interesting :)

Of course, this is a very trivial matter, but they could face a £2,500 penalty. However, that would be pocket money for Top Gear considering their budget!

It's not as if they did not know the law, so they should have expected this.

I know that people disagree with the smoking ban, however it was a central plank of the government's health strategy - and they got re-elected on it, so there must have been some support for it. I wonder what kind of society we would live in if we could pick and choose what laws we wanted to obey?

Perhaps this chappie moving in next door?

thing is that programme was pre-recorded, and most likely recorded before the smoking ban anyway!

Valid point oli but doubt it was 3 months in advance

vidal
19th October 2007, 08:10
The point I was making was the smoking ban is law, like it or not. TG deliberately chose to flout this law with prima facie evidence that the ban was broken, therefore a crime has been committed. This was not a group of people who had been living under a rock for the last few months so they can hardly argue they knew nothing of the ban.

The smoking ban is here to stay (until a government is elected that repeals it), and choosing to break the law, albeit in a humorous manner is still breaking the law. No ifs, no buts (or should that be butts!) they should be prosecuted.

As to the picture I posted earlier of Gary Glitter, he knew that sex with 12 year old girls is against the law, he chose to deliberately flout it and paid the consequences. If we do have people picking and choosing which laws they want to obey, and more importantly, which they will choose to ignore, you can't complain if someone's idea of normal behaviour conflicts with yours.

I think Top Gear should be on after the watershed anyway, like say at least 9pm maybe even 10pm
Because then all the stupid people who want to complain about anything and everything are usually tucked up in bed with their hot water bottles.
They were making a joke about the pipes and some people just want another reason to complain.

In my opinion if your easily offended or dont have a sense of humour, DONT watch Top Gear! Antiques Roadshow is on BBC 1, you've got a remote, use it!

id really like to meet the people that complain at this type of thing,,,GRRR, im not a smoker, but to complaing about something like that, when there was no complaints from the AUDIENCE. grr.

Jazz
19th October 2007, 12:11
Think its sad tbh, that critics will never leave shows like TG alone. Its entertainment, nobody was injured, the present audience did not voice complaints, the guys were having harmless fun and it wasn't really a public place, when only a select amount of audience members are admitted to each filming, after being on a 12month+ waiting list. If you don't like it, don't watch it! But its quality entertainment, and in a society full of all sorts of silly rules and regulations on motoring, its refreshing to still see a motoring show thats quirky, goes against the rule book and as a result had become one of the BBC's most successful shows ever.

LAY OFF Top Gear I say! As long as there are drivers on the British roads it will always, ALWAYS have its loyal followers and supporters.

Rant over :)

yes that is true, but like Vidal said, what kind of society would we live in if we made the rules? im sorry, but id rather live by the governments rules, than people who dont have a clue (not saying everyone is clueless btw lol)

Yes, i dont always agree withthe law, but that is life, and its not going to change anytime soon

James
19th October 2007, 12:29
Would you say it's ok if I sparked up a smoke next to you in work? you would not be ok about it..

TG knew what they were doing, they simply did it to be the center of attension again.. thats how they advertise. It's free and makes people want to see what there missing.

Hanuman
19th October 2007, 12:29
there is SSOOOOOO many loopholes in any legal system its unreal,

the top gear set is a public place im afraid

Hanuman
19th October 2007, 12:33

i agree with ya mate, they will deserve what ever they get. I just think its a tad silly because none of the audience complaned, it was a viewer, that cant be affected cos he/she/it wasnt there lol

But again, still wrong to do

James
19th October 2007, 12:41
I personally don't care.. if I had my way smoking would not be banned.

Jazz

... agreed. I have no trouble with the smoking ban, I don't smoke myself so was actually happy that its stopped in public places, but in reality, Top Gear probabaly release more fumes when firing up a supercar in the studio (they've done it before a few times) then harmlessly pissing-about with a few pipes. Sad that the smallest thing can spark off so much fuss because a rule book says it should do so. Just plain sad really. :n:

My boss walks about in our warehouse puffing on marlboro lights all day long

How do i grass him up?

vidal
19th October 2007, 12:52
All they had to do was hold the pipes and not light up. The point would still have been made. In lighting up they knowingly chose to break the law, whether the audience complained or not it was still an offence. I wonder if Jezza will still be as smug when he ends up paying the fine? (and yes, I realise it's loose change to him.)

On a related note, I don't suppose the fact he got off the recent speeding case (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/6982514.stm) may have led him to believe he was above the law?

V.

CloVis
19th October 2007, 13:02
This makes me laugh like, the Audience didnt care!! if they did it would be a completly different matter. But they didnt.
Yes there is a law, and they have broken the law so they should get a fine or a warning just like the rest of us.
I should think they should have had set regulations made out to all audience and workers involved before attempting this.

Anyway, we dont have any right in whats being done now, so as far as im concerned whats the point in talking about it. The mindless suit wearing bald men do that.
