View Full Version : Whats the biggest fright

B+B
19th October 2007, 13:02
whats the "biggest" fright you have had driving a car?
mine was a long time ago, drew out a brand new viva delux from the car pool, on my way to work next day spun out on black ice and went head on into concrete lamp-post, ended up on the floor across the front as the seat belt broke at the buckle and the dash came down over the top of me.
The first thing I heard was a voice saying "there's no one in the car" I soon let them know I was there, they cut me out and only had 3 scratches on my head.
My guardian angel was with me that day:clapping:

hmmmm where do i start. hahaha.

mine has to be going along on myside of the road, doing the speed limit minding my own business. going round a corner, braking, locking up then veering onto the other side of the road and taking the back off a off duty police officers bmw estate. not my proudest moment.

just passed my test and didnt have a clue what i was doing.

came to a crossroad where I had to giveway, I stopped then went forward as a car doing 60ish was coming towards me, literally missed my bumper by yards.
I beeped my horn thinking I could make out he was in the wrong.
good times.

In my mates Corsa (pow) GSi coming back from the seaside at midnight with two girlfriends in back.....Pissing down with rain....hit a massive puddle in the road...aquaplaned into otherside of road..car nearly rolled....mate corrected it and we looked at each other and laughed.....although we were both shaking

driving across the mountain in my calibra turbo, hitting cattle grid at 2am covered in ice, rolling off the road, through 2 fences and onto a golf course before ending up on the roof, took me nearly 3 hours to walk to nearest main road for help as my mate had broke his leg, i had a scratched forehead and a dented ego! tip is calibra turbo @ 18 = silly, or the head on collision 3 days after i passed in my superspeed corsa 1.4 sport, 70mph hurts btw!

BMW cut me up.. i had to slow down and I span le fook out on a roundabout, did a 360 around the roundabout and stopped facing the traffic. Was about an inch away from the curb when I stopped..

Had a few scary moments in cars...not many whilst ive ben driving

One when i first passed i was driving my mams landrover (gypsy) about, some woman pulled out on me at a round about almost takin the front end off....i was with a chick at the time (first date) - so i followed them then slamed brakes on and i almost creamed into the back of them and broke the chicks nose on the dash

Shat myself then dropped her off at home

never to be seen again

my mate had a 1.4 306, complete piece of shit. had some right funny storys to tell.

we were going along a main road, at 40. he decided to overtake this merc SLK thing. so he goes to overtake him, matey in merc puts his foot down slightly and catches up so we cant get back onto ourside of the road. so we are along side him for about 5 minutes, blind hill approaching. my mate wouldnt back down. we were all creasing up in the back laughing cos he was getting embarrased. in the end they guy in the merc took his foot off and let us back in. was hilarious, but slightly dangerous at the same time.

same mate, had a corsa for his first car. we were parked in a carpark in his motor, with a small roundabout by it. he was talking about how one of our other mates tried to rally round there and binned his focus. so me and the other 2 mates in his motor start chanting RALLY RALLY RALLY. so he wheelspins off, claters round this roundabout, spins straight off and smashes into a lampost hahahahahahaha. was classic. so, so dangerous but classic.

my scariest was when i first passed, was on a back road single track heading into town, gave way to a car, crept back up to speed limit probably about 55,went round a slight left corner (with high hedges)it was a choice of lock up brakes on loose gravel, hit the tractor, and the option i took was swerve round causing a learner driver to slightly mount the verge oooooo dear

simular story.

Two of my mates had just flown back from America, i went to meet them at Mc Ds for a breakfast. I hadnt seen them in about a month as i was on holiday before them. I then came home then they went.

Anyway. Whilest i was away my mate passed his test. Whilest they was on holiday i bought my VTR.

After we had breakfast, i got in my car and mark got in his. Pissing about hes revving his engine and goes 'il race ya in your VTR' taking the piss (he had passed and he hadnt seen the new car)

Anyway. he slams it in reverese and revs 'come on' he shoots off in reverse about 50 metre. I start waving my hands telling him to stop BANG. straight into the back of a 306 hahahaha. The only car in a massive carpark.

Scariest moment was when my mate was driving (dont know if that counts)

Basically we was going through country lanes, she took a sharp corner at 45 (speed limit 40). Swerved back and forth across the road, eventually ending up back on the right side after hitting a concreate block and bursting a tyre, ripping a wheel cap off, and smashing the side panel in.
At the time she had a fag in her hand and lost control of it, burnt the inside out......

She's still driving it today! :)

actually from my fault my worst would be 2nd car got a nova 1.4 sr tearing along doing 60 on a 60 road with 2 people in the car didnt realise the road came to a sharp left whilst braking, started braking (no anti lock on them fkers) went in a straight line all i heard was me mate going "ohhhhhhhh noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" luckily last second before the curb, got it under control and drove off giving it "what" "i knew what i was doing...... i wanted brown stained pants!"

oh and probably last may walking back to me car on a street only to find the firebrigage next to it and smoke coming from my beloved ex car! probably the worst feeling

Had to go straight off the slip road onto a grass verge doing about 80 before a lorry driver let me in was a very big brown trouser moment i had already seen the crash in my head

Or my crash at junction 27 where i wrote the vts off s34mer is a witness among others

second with my mate in his car......goin on a back road he dint no the road but i did forgot to tell him there was a really sharp bend, was doin bout 60! hit this bend he breaked spun the car around and ended up horizontally on other side of road! we sit there thinkin thank god there wasnt a car comin......around te corner of a blind bend comes a car............a very very near miss!!

Some crackers on here!

Couple stand out for me, in my mates corsa, coming up to a tight bend in the wet, car spins off into a junction at the side of the bend, 360's then drives off as if he meant it ... needless to say there was an imprint of my hand on the seat and dashboard!

Another was in an escort when I was about 15, near mine is a bridge, which if you go over at any speed it leaves your stomach behind ... sat in the back having a bit patter with my friends, didn't realise the speed the car was doing, come to the bridge lost my stomach got my stomach back, only to feel the car land after a 'jump', slid all over and nearly wrap it into on coming traffic!

Luckily had none in my own car, touch wood!

a couple for me too.

1. going round a corner and thought the junction was further round, as it happens it wasnt. did the biggest 180 ending up on the other road on other side. there was a car about 50 yards. how i didnt hit anything. also was changing gear in the spin so i could get away lol

2. in wet conditions doing about 60, back end went and i was going round this corner totally sideways like a drifter. a car happen to pass me coming the other way. dont know what they the thinking. :panic: thought this gonna be it, but happened to miss every tree and the verge i went up had no hedge. very lucky that

3. overtaking this sierra coming to a corner, was quite away back but the bellend put his footdown. i obviously was still gonna go past. approached this corner at stupid speed, tapped the breaks before went round which i honestly thought im never going round here but somehow made it. went petrol station after and was shaking.

that was worse than smashing my astra up at 17. hit a tree, did a few 360s going through fences then ended up in a ditch

good thread so far like!

mine arnt anything too special though...

1) little country road (flatts lane for mbro people) and it has concrete slabs stood sideways all the way along. anyway it was an autumn day so there were wet leasves everywhere...
made it round the first corner fine at 70 (50mph speed limit), second corner comes up, i relaise its alot sharper than i originally thought, tried to do it, didnt, and ended up 360ing into a wall and beeing stuck in loads of mud. mashed up saxo :)

i was racing my mate and he got to the end of the road and rang me like "where are you, you took a wrong turn?" "nope, just crashed mate"
(i am now a safe driver and dont race anymore :))

2) on the motorway after a stressfull day at work and bombing it along at 110mph, get stuck behind someone doing 90 so im right up his arse (in my stupid days) and he wouldnt move, but instead he thought hed not just tap his brakes, but emergency stop right there and then......

needless to say straight into the back of him. not a scratch on his car, mine was a bit buggered. caused a 6 car pile up behind me, they had to close A19. no one was hurt and im not proud of it, but its a story to tell the kids innit

Tbh im not sure how my car is still in one peice..

Had a near miss with a bus, when i was in my lane, a car in the lane turning right was slighty over the white line so i moved to my white line an the bus in the bus lane knocked off my wing mirror...

Then i was out the night of my cusains 21st,hadnt drank but didnt get in till gone 4, was up at 6 to drive back to lincs for work at 9, was 1st time i drove in the fog. Chatting away to my mum who was still pissed from night before, didnt see the roundabout, slammed my breaks on and stopped sidewards touching the curb of the roundabout. thank god nothing was coming!

was out with my mate and he was in a rush to get back home came up to a corner with an adverse camber he turned the car just went straight went through hedges and he then slide side ways into a tree drivers side hit, car was pretty much in half i got out and my mate was unconcuis so i rang the ambulance and what not, i went back to my mate still no answer looked into the footwell and the pedal box was total mashed up i tried to get himout but couldnt...when the albumlance crew got there it was to late.

mine would of been in my old 998 mini, 7:30am, off to work, was so foggy i couldn't see a thing (no fogs on a mini), then standard sliding down the road on a nice long patch of black ice, finally stopped and when i looked, could see that the left of the car was about 3-4 foot from falling down a 6 foot ditch. that shit me up a bit.

oh ah, and on tuesday going to the sw meet, water everywhere and deepish water (for on a road anyway), so aqua planing was the thing of the night, was sketch.

i with with my mate in his car and he was driving fast on the motorway, a lorry pulled out in front of us and he slammed his brakes on and we were slowing down but not fast enough, the front end of his car went under the rear of the lorry about 2ft in before it started to pull back (dam fiesta 1.0 with brake fade), lucky it never touched as the lorry was an extended frame with quite a bit of overhang

Some great stories on here lol.

My only real scare was about 3mths after passing my test and being over-confident as most people are when they start driving. I decided to go visit an old friend in Lancaster and show off my first car. (still the car I have now lol) Whilst I was there it started pissing it down so bad I put off going home for a few hours.

Was on my way back from Lancaster to Fleetwood the back way over Wyre (locallers will know where I mean, near pilling sands) and theres a big stretch of open county lane over a mile long. As it was quiet I decided to put my foot down as I came that way so I knew I could handle it so went about 80mph. Come towards the end of the stretch I notice the bend in the road to the left, I begin to break, I cant remember the exact speed I was doing but it was no higher than 45mph. But my wheels mustve slipped on cats-eyes or something with it being wet and started to power slide (or so I thought they were and thought wow this is cool) next second goes by and Ive done a 540degree spin!! When I had stopped I was shaking like a fucker, looked behind me and noticed my back corner was in a Mk3 Golf GTI's door! Driver wasnt happy at all!

His door was ruined and only minor scratch work on my car had been caused! (who said french cars are made of shit! lol) Cost me £380 to get him a new door, fitted and sprayed. The biggest pain was he had a strange metallic colour which I hadnt seen before which cost the most due to labor. No police involved luckilly!! Lucky escape for me I think. Now when going round corners at speed my confidence is shattered so I end up slowing down when really I prob dont need to.

One time I was driving the sax, I was on my side of the road doing 35mph in a 40 zone as I had slowed down for a bend. There was this car wanting to turn right into a side road but this car came from no where overtook the car signalling right and missed my car by a metre!

Had to go straight off the slip road onto a grass verge doing about 80 before a lorry driver let me in was a very big brown trouser moment i had already seen the crash in my head

was in my first car (106) on the way to college wid my mate, thought we'd take a short cut down an old airfield. The surface was shocking, on reflection i was prob going to fast lol, back end stepped out and only being past a month was a bit twitchy and flicked the wheel, back end went the other way spun me 180 hit the grass verge n did about 3 roll's into a field. And we had 2 set of golf clubs in the back (college was a bit slack lol), we was both ok luckily. written off car, angry parents and a horrbile thought that i could of just killed my mate. bad times.

Few weeks ago, was coming back from a mates out in the country, and there was a left hand bend, which i didnt see, resulting in me going through someones front bush and almost crashing into the living room.
luckily there was no damage to the car and that no one was in to see it ;)

a van on my side of the road coming over a hill at 60mph, both skided and just missed each other, so scary!

another one i just remembered:

Driving through Birmingham center with Blink 182 blasting out the car, everyone in the back dancing looking like pricks, this Landrover drives up along side us in the right hand lane. The guy was shouting for us to pull over, but we couldnt coz the road was splitting so i carried on, he took the right. Initially thought there was something wrong with the car, but nothing obvious so carried on. About 20 seconds later in my rear view mirror see this landrover
speeding up behind me (going about 40) so i sped up a bit, then he persisted on getting right up my arse flashing his lights.

at this poing i was shitting myself, so i sped up to about 45, then he undertakes me slightly mounting the pavement and swerves infront of me forcing me to stop. tryed to drive around him, but the huge fcuker got out (big asian man)

grabs the guy in the back of the car and told me if i tried to drive off he'd 'knife me'.

smacks the guy in the back and told us to fuck off.

apparently he thought we were being racist, obviously i wouldnt be so stupid as they were huge. anyway carried on out of birmingham had to pull over for a smoke and to let out a nervous laugh.

I knew there was a reason I hated Blink 182 :homme:

was with some mates leaving the lights back in the white sax, he accelerated to go past this lorry which was going extremely slow, so I overtook as well only noticing that the road was narrowing to a single lane :panic: but not only that i was getting closer to the lorry and on the right was a traffic island... back tyre just misses the kerb and so angry at my mate I leave him behind and get him lost.. only to take him down a road where he goes into a bush in his 306 as he had had a crash before in this car the whole front facia just popped off :D, was worried when i saw the headlights go straight instead of turn left.

Oh and theres the time where I went over the humback bridge (with the turn in it) and brakes locked going too fast flew over bridge into concrete block... any faster would of gone through a bush into a dual carriageway
