Hi there. Now this may seem like a very amutuer sort of question, and I have done a search, but my rear offside brake grinds when I brake. Now how do I know whether it is just my pads that need replacing or discs as well. Will I need to replace both rear pads (and maybe discs) to avoid any disasters. I was thinking of replacing them myself as I am on a VERY strict budget at the moment (have tax, mot and tyres need replacing within the next month), but how much would the whole package cost at a garage for pads, and then for pads and discs, just an average price as I know garages vary.
Any help would be much appriciated.
Cheers. Kev.

Btw, the title was meant to say 'discs or pads replacing'. Lol.

VTR's are discs all round are they? If so, the simply way is to just inspect the condition of the pads and discs. You might find it easier if you take the wheel off, but you don't have to...

It will be fairly obvious if the pads are worn and ready to be replaced, as there won't be much of them left. If you have an excessive lip on the discs, then they will need replacing too. If the discs are OK, just change the pads, but change both pads, not just one side / wheel.

Oh yeah, if you are on a budget, get the parts from GSF, Allparts or probably the cheapest place; EuroCarParts.
