Good idea would love to get me hands on that exige though be good to see them doing some track day events in it to prove they not out to get you just to get a message across

Robbo
23rd October 2007, 21:11
waste of money!

fair enough they need a few faster cars to keep up with anything that tries to outrun them but come ooff it, surely a scooby/2 and a half litre astra/focus st does just the same job?

Wayne
23rd October 2007, 21:11
subaru or an evo would of been better.

Lee_P
23rd October 2007, 21:11
its bloody stupid they arnt even gonna use it for crime its just to relate to us youngsters (i feel really wrong calling myslef young at 22 wheres my pipe) as if a cop in a nice car is any different from a normal cop waste of money

what im saying is a car isnt gonna help a copper relate at all

Obviously it isnt slow in comparison to say.. A Saxo (awaits bad rep ) But most the police cars are chipped and modded to do about 150 and 0-60 under 6 seconds anyways.

And police are suppose to back off at high speeds. Which they dont these days (remember something being on tv about it, cops causing more danger than the criminal). If theres a boy racer, or someone with nothing to lose, no license and insurance etc.. and this thing
http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/10_03/PaulMastersonAPEX_468x326.jpg
Comes in his rear view mirror... Theres a change he'd see it as a challenge and drive more dangerously..

He added the car was not not an operational police car and unable to get involved in high speed chases: "The idea is that drivers will come to us and have a chat," he said.

class idea tbh.

maynard
23rd October 2007, 21:20
have never been bothered by the police, so i have nothing bad to say about them but id imagine a few have. does seem like a waste of money though. could of bought something better but cheaper too.

Paul
23rd October 2007, 21:21
class idea tbh.

Ahh missed that bit. My bad.

If it wasnt for practical use though.. Why do they need months of training to drive it :S

only driven by police class 1 drivers who have gone through months of driver training courses.

Paul

Would be interesting to know what salary the driver is on..

Barry123
23rd October 2007, 21:24
North Yorkshire has a fleet of Prodrive Scooby (which I've escaped from loads of time) each one costs +£30k

one lotus isnt a problem... plus the fact the po po will have got the car cheap anyway.

Paul
23rd October 2007, 21:27
Hmm good point.. The manchester police have a couple scoobys, they're not that good at catching the good drivers though. Remember seeing a video of an EVO escaping from one.

23rd October 2007, 21:55
Pah wannabe's tbh, Warwickshire has the best Traffic policing in the country by a large margin.

2 x subaru impreza's
2 x Focus ST
a few BMW 335 twin turbos

all of the above are unmarked vehicles aswel FTW its like shooting rats in a barrel out on the streets catching the poor drivers.

Still got some of the volvo's and bmw estates as the marked cars aswel

A fleet off offroad bikes which have cleared out a hell of a lot of mini moto's, and other bike nuisance.

And they've also got a few new Honda Blackbird motorcycles which are unmarked aswel now.

Barry123

not a patch sayer lol

Comedy to think West Mercia want to pay Warwickshire to use their kit/resources on overtime as they only have a diesel astra as their best car

Barry123
23rd October 2007, 22:05
prodrive scooooooobies ftw

willsy
23rd October 2007, 22:11
They are top of the range, the best thing that scooby can supply with a few added extras here and there ;)

JonoPhillips
23rd October 2007, 22:12
waste of taxpayers money, hows that gonna chase a boy racer over the speed bumps on their home estate, better off wid scoobys.

ScottyB
23rd October 2007, 22:13
May well have a fast car, but they still suck at driving :y:

Matty_VTR
23rd October 2007, 22:15
bet it cant keep up with a 1.0 saxo at 50mph over speedhumps.

lol, you seen in Italy they have a few Murciélago's in their police force.

smiith
23rd October 2007, 22:15
adsayer, where in north yorks you from :o

i used to get stopped by a dark gray scoob around whitby/middlesborough on the coast roads all the time. he seems to have gone by now, would always do about 90 though the villages to show off when pulling away aswell :/

Anyway, with the lotus, how are they gona take anyone into custody with that thing??

can see it getting repetative calling backup to arrest someone :)

Barry123
23rd October 2007, 22:18
North yorkshire po po base is in a village called South Otterington (just near naffallerton), seen a few obviously pop in and out off there but they usually chill out on the motorways.

smiith
23rd October 2007, 22:21
not a clue where them places are :P but them scoobs have some mean power in em, its supprising how fast they can catch up with you, even more suprising how loud they are, when out local bobies always stop us for exhaust noise :/

Ben_L
23rd October 2007, 23:10
What difference will it make if it can go over speed bumps fast or not if its not going to be used for chases? Waste of money really. The police would have more luck mixing in with the "Boy Racers" in a Scooby than an Exige tbh.

Payney
23rd October 2007, 23:13
Shit idea tbh, as soon as someone sees that in the mirror there just gonna try out run it and be even more dangerous.

Easty
23rd October 2007, 23:28
not sure how a scooby would be much cheaper bear in mind they only buy brand new cars

SaxoJamie
24th October 2007, 17:34
Don't know if it will work tbh. Sure they could have found a cheaper car to do the job but the typical boy racer doesn't drive a lotus so I don't know why they thought it would work cos criminals will just seek even more powerful cars for their getaway vehicle

lighters
24th October 2007, 17:55
the thing cant be good on MPG, just keep going until they run out of petrol HAHA!

I hate police zooming around doing fucking 45 in 30 zones and then when i do spot on 30 they OBVIOUSLY follow me, i hate driving when they are behind me!

p.s then again there always behind me in my 1.1 ;) zooom!

they dont even drive it!
He added the car was not not an operational police car and unable to get involved in high speed chases: "The idea is that drivers will come to us and have a chat," he said.

"We generally turn up at events where youngsters hang out.

"With this vehicle they actually come over and want to talk to us. Then we introduce the road safety message."

what a waste of money fr fk sake, its like scoobies mercs and all the stupid cars the coppers have blatently no need for a massive brand new top spec bmw 4x4 for a traffic cop car, blatently police guys wanting an excuse to drive good cars

craig180
24th October 2007, 20:28
If they were following you in that thing and tried to pull you over what are you going to see in your rear view mirror???

You would see a coppers head poking out of the top of "something" because it's that bloody low!

josh1989
24th October 2007, 20:45
it would be a good idea in a county with very curvy roads...nothing can beat one of thise round a corner.

what's the point anyway, as long as the car can keep a visible distance to the one it's chasing before the chopper arrives then its job done

yorkie
24th October 2007, 21:21
i rememeber afew years ago norfork police has a nsx!!!

and hull police used to have a escort cosworth

york had a wrc spec scoob!!!

TBH.. they stole that idea from italy.. (i think it is) Where they have a Lamborghini Gallardo as a police car.. which does go on duty and catch people.

Lotus VS Gallardo.. they didn't try hard enough =D

my god ok this is pointless lmaoooooooooo

Its top speed is just shy of 150 mph which is what most of our patrol cars can do anyway."

why buy it if u know if ur normal T5's scoobies evo's can do that LOLS 35K wasted there tbh.

He added the car was not not an operational police car and unable to get involved in high speed chases: "The idea is that drivers will come to us and have a chat," he said

basicly making all the chav boyracers think hmm can we out run this lotus hmm lets try tonight shall we lmao.

We generally turn up at events where youngsters hang out.

Mcdonalds car parks i guess

With this vehicle they actually come over and want to talk to us. Then we introduce the road safety message."

they dont wanna know fk all about safty lol they wanna know what BHP it is 0-60 times how fast u driven it is it on petrol or Lpg'd lol

what a waste of tax money seriously.

gregory87
25th October 2007, 14:16
What a complete waste of taxpayers money. How many normal panda cars could they buy for that and actually use them patrolling streets for genuine criminals.....instead of goin to car shows and tossing it off, pretending they're workin and getin paid 30 grand a year to do it.

Even if they did use this as an operational vehicle they'd probably chase u, pull you over and then spend 20 minutes tryin to climb out of the thing....while in the mean time you've pulled off and disappeared into the distance!

Anybody thats ever sat in one of these knows how hard they are to get in and out of.

Wish i could decide where my taxes got spent.

v3nnie
25th October 2007, 14:21
Years ago Suffolk police use to use Ford rs 200's

If anyone goes along the M40 the police are using a silver st focus 07 plate, it's so convert you won't know its the police till the blue lights come on. Also they are using silver, black and red skoda Octivas

lol Ive seen it at some car shows and the guy that drives it is about 6'5!!:P thats probably the only reason they dont use it in car chases

MikeCracknell
25th October 2007, 18:12
I saw this car yesterday at the Uni of Sussex, and I spoke to one of the cops, who told me they are not actually gonna use it on the road, its to promote road safety...

As for the £35k cost, they have been "Sponsored" it by some Lotus garage!
