Hi gang

I've been thinking for a while, i have a 12" rockford fosgate sub in a sealed box. It kicks ass but if i was to port it (i.e. put a hole in the side) would it sound better?

Can any sub be in a box with a hole in it?

Thanks

tbh i like a fully sealed box, the best thing to do is go to an ice shop and listen to both

I prefer ported.

However its not as simple as knocking a hole in the box. 99% of the time the box has to be larger and the port will need to be tuned which is just a case of different size/length of port.

as said porting is alot harder to do cant relly go to a shop n buy any ported box need it the correct size for your sub n tuned

not really as simple as "a box with a hole in it"

the box will indeed need to be slightly bigger, to allow the same air mass to be inside the box when the sub isnt moving

different subs with different specs will perform differenly in a ported box

The size and length of the port has to be right aswell. Its not easy getting a ported box to sound right.

Cheers people! Just a thought

Seems very techincal. I need to find out the model number of the sub and go fishing around to see if its worth it.

RE Audio have an excellent box creator:

if you know the dimensions you can work to then you can calculate if you can do it and it will give you all teh measurements. Dead easy.
