I have some new Grooved discs waiting to go on my saxo, but need some new pads aswell. Any reccomendations guys? i currently have mintex, they seem to cause a lot of nasty brake dust :wall:

whats wrong with brake dust it shows the brakes are working lol!

mintex are by far the better of the aftermarket pads. stop being an asw and just clean the wheels more if your that worried about dirt

LOL at this thread.

why buy grooved disks if you are worried about brake dust.
having grooves in your brakes will cause the pads to wear quicker increasing brake dust !

i don't have grooved discs on mine, i'm saving up to buy a decent set up 206 gti or 306 gti-6 brakes.

have you sold those ones you bought ?

p.s. dont buy gti6 brakes, its over kill and you have no use for that much stopping power.

not yet but will be soon, looking for a 206 gti 266mm set up in the future when i want to upgrade.

i beg to differ, you can never have enough stopping power if you use them correctly. I wouldnt go back after having 4pots on mine. an underbraked vehicle is more dangerous than one with a ton of stopping power.

and the grooves in disks are to help with heat dispersion if they are correctly made and help the gases to leave the surface of the disk, thus helping reduce brake fade.

while on the subject of brakes.

mine are ok, got loads of pad left and loads of disc.

may be doing one track day this year is it worth getting new pads and discs or just waiting and get the 406 brembo's?

prob will only be doing that one track day before getting the brembo's anyway.

whatever you do dont fit new brakes just before a track day, you will need to make sure they have been bedded in correctly or else you have a recipie for diaster.

ok cheers, i may stick with mine then as there is lots of meat left, then get brembo's and get them orn in before the next track seesion.

maybe, im just not a fan of the weight involved in the gti6 setup, plus for Wayne (saxoboy07) 266 is ideal.

personally i find my 266 is fine for road use, infact i would say ideal, the vtr/s should have had these as standard.

not all are aware of the reason grooves are there, so it would have been irrelevant to many us commenting on them without explaining what they do and why.

Its personal preference on brakes but theres tons of set ups out there, so there isnt just one set up for all.

true, i just hope people take the time to read the brake guide.
as a generalisation i would say people who know little about brakes go straight out and buy disks with multiple grooves and drilling, thus doing little to improve their braking performance.
more piston power is what you want people lol !

agreed, max power says drilled is cool! lol!

and who asked what 4 pots are, it means you have 4 pistons, so 2 pistons per side of the caliper pushing against the disc.

again while on the subject of breaks jul2's VT is eating rear pads i know that one of h'break mechanisms is jamming on but it seems worse now its been lowered - set up is ebc green stuff and the ebc disks lowered 50mm - any ideas ?

its heading for 2 sets of rear pads in a couple of months !!!!!!!!

std pads on the rear are fine tbh, i use em with my 4 pots at the front, ebc are £££ for shit performance

ive yet to try the mintex pads out but i ran red dot pads for a while and did variuos mad A road dashes and a donginton trackday with them on and never had a problem with them they stopped the car on the dot too when pushed


im certainly gonna be buying some more soon :)

i had mintex on my old discovery (just remembered) and they squeeled like a pig at slaughter, glazed the disks and had to swop the disks and pads for lochhead (thats what they come out the factory with) the next time i put ferodo on !!!!

dont buy white wheels.
I do 3 miles light breaking and i have breakdust everywhere.
