View Full Version : great idea petrol cheaper

so this was an email sent to me but i thought posting it on here would reach more people i think if people do this it really will work
See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it
We are hitting 9 8p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.
Please read it and join in!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.
If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!
Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send i t to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at
least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..
THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us
sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference If this makes
sense to you, please pass this message on.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE
RANGE
It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e.boycott BP and Esso
come on it is a good idea

it IS a good idea. I mean.. maybe if he had a website link... and.. there was a countdown to it? Like.. in another two months or something.. make a big deal out of it... but you can't just say "ok.. don't buy it starting from now".. because at the end of the day.. what difference is one person going to make? Noone knows how long that email has been flying about for or anything.
I do think though, if a website was made.. and said.. "on the 1st of February.. do not buy petrol from X X and X.."
It's kind of like the "Shutdown Day 2007".. where like.. 20,000,000 people didn't use the computer that day..

Never going to happen thats why dude. If your in the middle of nowhere and need
petrol are you really going to argue over prices.
People make me laugh when they travel miles to reach a petrol station thats 4p
less per litre. What about the petrol wasted driving there you dumbasses! You
know who you are! :dweeb:

godsake its only petrol,if your not happy use another mode of transport
rushy_23
24th October 2007, 22:26
Government need to improve public transport, then more people would be happy
to use it, (petrol wouldnt sell as much then over here), plus make driving tests
more difficult and make it require more skill to pass (reduce the amount of
twatish drivers on the road and reduce insurance).
Thats the most simple answer, but the government wants your money Im afraid.
So they will continue to screw you over and run the country into the ground.

TBh.. I don't care if the petrol does go up.. Let me ask everyone this..
You pay 2p per litre extra.. that's (£20 = 20 litres.. 40p).. So.. for every £50 on petrol you spent.. you're only losing a quid. I use a quid making pointless drives when i'm bored.. or.. buying unnecessary space-invaiders or a bottle of lucosade at the shop.. Do you really need to leave the light on? USe that much hot water? No.
I don't know why people cry so much about petrol TBH.. we waste allot more money on other shit. IT just seems that petrol is an easy target because we can say "But i need petrol".. and you find it hard to say "I don't need a new pair of shoes"

im sure they did this last time it was around a £1 a litre and got the papers involved etc and just said dont buy petrol on this day, and it caused all kinds of knock on effects, garages running out a couple of days before as people panniced and filled up to make sure they had enough to see them through etc
i think it actually worked and they dropped the price for a bit.

sorry to piss on your bonfire dude but it wont matter to esso or bp whether people buy at their forecourts or not. you see both esso and bp have refineries dotted around the coast... and thats where the money is made. To save money the garages regardless of whether they are bp, shell, texaco etc will use the same refinery. as most of the players have their own refineries they are happy to share with each other as it keeps costs low.
simply avoiding brand of station and going to another still means the same fuel from the same refinery is being consumed so it hurts no one other than the forecourt owner who dont have massive margins anyway (well 10% or so).
nice idea but the people you really want to kick in the balls its the government for fuel duty being a 44p or something daft. but im still going to stick to my usual message... if you cant afford to run the car get a cheaper one if it bothers you that much.
incidently the fuel protesters that blocked refineries totally pwned the government on that one and managed to alter the price of fuel.

heard this idea like what 1 year ago, it will never will and never happen, the guy tried to do it off that site where you put your name down while he tried to work with one company, it would work in theory, but that guy dissapeared (probably with a nice pay off) people saying they dont care about it going up... your just bloody stupid plain and simple stupid its the morale of it all its not its going up a penny its the fact its gone up about 40p in 10years and we pay nearly double what other countries pay,
end of the day its tax money.... not oil companies making money so we aint gonna get away with any little scams the government wouldnt let it happen.. after all they now need to pay for lotus elise exiges for the police lol

I would take part as I would love cheaper petrol (like every motorist), but petrol from supermarkets make my car run like a bag of shite. Tappy as fook, whereas petrol from BP makes my engine run noticably smoother. Does anyone else find this? BP must use a higher octane petrol for their basic unleaded compared to oh lets say morrisons
Barry123
24th October 2007, 23:24
Its not so much that supermarket fuel is shite.
all road fuel must meet the following standards:
bs:en228 (well for petrol)
and bs:en590
dont ask how i know that.
