The "search" button is a wonderful tool.
Been covered a million and one times in the last month. Anything that does not show the BS mark in the corner of the plate is illegal.
That includes pressed plates, non standard font types, non reflective/shadowed backings, non standard logos (citroen, england flag etc.)
You can have standard font on reflective backing plates with either the Euro flag or nothing. All new plates have to display the makers Postcode.
Coloured borders are also now illegal

pressed plates look far better than standard plates , wouldnt it be good if we could legalise pressed plates

Pressed plates are legal if your car was registered before 2001 and if they meet EU standards..
That is exactly what the DVLA told Damo..

All yellow/white pressed plates are illegal, other than those on classic cars

down to police really. i got pulled just because they wanted something to pull me on and didnt see my front tints till i was at side of the road. said the font lettering was too thin yet it still bought it up on there system. Just got a slip to get stamped at MOT station.
been pulled a few times before and police have done over car and commented on the plates sayin why a F but never done anything about them.

That and you have to show at a VOSA station within 7 days to show that your car now carries legal plates
