what's the deal?
apart from weight loss like the buckets and roll cage etc what modifications do the cars have? or do they have to be stock? what's the cost? do you have to have a liscence (racing not driving)?
just intrigued

What do I need to race SAXMAX?
You will need 3 documents:
a) a fully paid up 750 Motor Club membership,
b) SAXMAX Championship registration,
c) MSA Junior Race Licence.
Obviously you will need a SAXMAX race car,
You will also need appropriate safety equipent including fire-proof suit, safety helmet, gloves etc.
obviously you need to be 14-17
josh1989
30th October 2007, 15:10

Forget it mate, at the age of 18 can you really afford to get a car track prepared? you're looking at easily over 10 maybe even 15 grand for a year of racing.
You're also forgetting transportation to and from events, accomodation at events, mechanical support/backup, maintanence/repair of car etc etc etc....
At the end of the day, I was going to go into pro racing when I was younger and even in Karting people as young as 13 chuck £15,000 per season at competing, unless you really do have financial backing you shouldn't even consider it.

Not true there my man, a stock hatch, used, starts at about a grand, rising up to 5k. You'll need all the overalls and heklmets etc, with the training, you can probably get a season one for about 4k

wasn't thinkin of doing it right now, i'll be on 50k (after tax) a year when i'm 25, and was simply looking at little races you can do, like the virgin yamaha r1 races they do before bsb (only difference being the bikes are all exactly the same and supplied)

That isn't all the costs though is it. You also have to assess travel, transportation, accomodation, mechanic hire, storage etc etc. It all adds up and at the end of the day it isn't just your simple entry costs and car costs..
And I wasn't doubting that you had or would have money josh I was just making you aware that there are other costs that are normally overlooked.

Not all of us have rich mums and dads?..
It annoys me when people say this because soon as i get any money it goes straight to the racing, i dont get pocket money or anything like that.
I also have to work for it, i dont just ask mum and dad if i can have 1k a weekend to race like the rich guys do

I recall Matt father saying one of the cars was bought for significantly less than £1k... if you've gone mechanical skillz then it is a relatively very cheap mode of entry into motorsport. Saxo's are in abundancy and parts are cheap, it makes sense to use them as a cheap motorsport car.
kcsaxo
30th October 2007, 16:44
one of the reason i go karting on a regular basis, dont have the money to race-prep a car or spare parts plus so much time is spent getting to locations. maybe im just lazy.

The 1st year Matt racing we spent around 17k , that was buying the car getting it race prepard, his race suit, helmet licence etc etc etc. To help pay for his racing now I buy and sell cars, also sell spares for Saxo's and other makes also hold down a full time job.
His mum works long hours too. Also his bothers and friends help us out in getting the car ready for racing also at the meetings.
But if one day he makes in racing it will all be worth it. (so long as he don't forget his dad ;) )
If anyone wants to start racing have a look at stock hatch to get a car race prepard its cheaper than Saxmax, also have a look at this website.
