Eletrical Problem?

Hi everyone. I'm having a bit of trouble with my mk1, R-reg, saxo VTR. the battery light is on all the time, but only dim, until i take my foot off the accelerator.

when this happens the battery light gets brighter and dimmer, and i can hear a ticking noise coming from somewhere at the front of the cars. And the worst part is that when the battery light "ticks", the power steering, and heater cuts out, had some near misses cus of that :P also when the i start the car, and turn the lights on, their also dimmer that normal, until a few seconds after i have pulled away, and got the rev's up a bit.

My dad told me he was sure it was an alternator problem, so i changed the alternator, but the problem is still there.

I just wondered if anyone might have an idea what is causing the problem, and would i be able to fix it myself?

Could be battery or a wiring problem. My battery light used to flicker sometimes, found out the wire that run to the alternator got burnt on the manifold :y: replaced it and jobs a goodun, worth checking it anyway. Hows the car crank over when starting? Does it seem slow or anything?

The car starts and run's perfectly apart from this problem. recently had a new battery, and I think all the battery wires are fine (not sure tho as it's a bit to dark to check at the moment, lol), as the alternator keeps the battery at a steady 14.46volt's when the engine's running. could that be the problem? as the battery output to high? or am i just being stupid? just kinda hoping it's gonna be something cheep or free to fix :)

get a volt meter and check that your getting 13+volts when hot

tired that, and everything's at around 14 volt's. and im outta idea's :(

give the altonator a good solid kick :)

my batt light was on last week, coudltn work out why, got annoyed n hit the altonator with a spanner, light isnt on, and no trouble as of yet :P

the rear demister also cuts out when it ticks. reckon i could this be the same kinda problem other people have had with the PAS + read demister + heater fan, as mentioned in other thread's?
