hi there i have read some of the threads about idle control valves but after following actions recomended the problem is just worse now.

i own a saxo vts and the car when driving sometimes goes to stall but then soon recovers, also when i stop the car will start idling at around 2000rpm occasionally this will drop to 1000rpm!

can anyone give me some advice as to what i need to do, would my bmc cda be causing the problems?

any help would be fab cheers

ive been kinda having a similar problem, i've got a 51 reg VTR

idles fine most of the time, under 1000rpm but over the past week theres been a few times when its kinda dropped all of a sudden and the cars shuddered as if it was going to stall but then goes straight back to normal

anyone got any advice? don't mean to hijack the thread just didn't want to put a separate topic up when this ones similar & has only just gone up!

cheers!

whats the stepper motor and is it expensive to replace?

ALEXTOFFIE- i had the same problems as that the revs would drop too struggle and then recover.

ive had exactly the same problem mate and alot of peepz said it was my idle control valve, when i took it for a diagnosis they couldnt find the probz so they tested my lambda sensor and said that the lamba sensor had a low signal or something. ive not had a new lambda sensor but my car is 99% fixed now. they must of give it a good clean or tightend it or something like that

i forgot to say that your best of takin it to a garge to find what the problem is because you dont want to be changing perfectly fine sensors or stepper mottors etc because it could end up getting expensive

clean idle control valve/or replace, clean throttle body aswel while you are at it for the sake of a 2 min job.

its definetly the coolant temperature sensor mate.i garauntee it.
my vts did the exact same thing.

you can test it by just pulling the plug out of the sensor .thats what i did and it run good and at least i wasnt a nervous wreck sitting in traffic anymore waiting for it to play up and rev up.mine is still hanging off but thats cuz im lazy and couldnt be arsed ordering the part.i posted pic of where it is in the engine but that was two or three weeks ago

u may as well rep me now as im 99% sure thats your problem.i can get pics if you really want

this picture is looking at the passenger side of the block and is the green plug that is in my hand.circled is the sensor itself.

so go outside now and unplug this lead to see if it makes any difference to the cars revving problem

although alex seeing as you have a vtr i dont know if this will benefit you as your problem sounds like the opposite of what is wrong with dougs(although both want to stall)yours revs down and his revs up.

appreciate ur help - i'll give it a go in the morning and see if it helps...

if i'm unplugging it and it helps , i presume i just leave it unplugged? or plug it back in cause it could have been loose? :)

well if you notice a difference then you need a new sensor but yours doesnt seem to be the collant temp sensor.your sound like coilpack problems or the above mentioned idle control valve.make sure your coilpack is earthed properly as mine wasnt and would barrel for ages if i stopped the car for like say 15mins to go onto a shop or something

and mine is hanging becuz im lazy.lol.i needa get one in the near future as the car is prob running un-economically without it

keep it plugged in. does the car do this all the time or just when it warms up? if so it could well be coolant temp sensor. my mate had the same sort of problem it turned out to be the map sensor

well mine is running fine with it hanging in mid air
