right about a month my sister drove past one of those tax checkers without tax, she was chrged 60 quid for it (lucky imo, i'd of had my car crushed if it was me, she has boobs though), but at the same time the copper informed her that her insurance had been cancelled in october o6!!! we never had word of this ever, i'm like the answer phone at home and they have never rang her once, so she got a £200 fine and 6 points on her liscence, i told her to call trading standards on the insurers for not telling her, she wasn't in the mood to bother, and just wanted to pay it off and move on
on sunday she was pulled for doing 35mph, fair dos there, but the police informed her that the car had no insurance (she was now insured with a new company since about a week ago)
she hasn't even received the insurance certificate yet.......
she rang them up, and they said they had cancelled her insurance becuase she hadn't provided proof of her no claims bonus!
i had this problem once as i'd accidentally said i had a years no claims, the insurance certificate came thorugh for me with a letter attached saying that i had 7 days to send proof of my no claims and a phone call will be made by them to me if they hadn't received it, i simply rang them and had it removed, slightly bumping up my premium
now has she just gone with knobhead insurers or is it not the law that they inform her by letter and phone before cancellation, and that the insurance cannot be cancelled until the insured driver sends the certificate back for destruction?
thank fuck the copper was kind to her cos she's have her car crushed and liscence takenoff her
anyone heard of this shit happening before or know wehter it's worth a call to trading standards?

as she was never asked, you are supposed to receive the request letter along with your insurance certificate which she never got, just to state this is all after the postal strike (was ace for me that as it was at the time i had my insurance cancelled, got free insurance for nearly a month!!)

That's bad news that, not sure on it, but doesn't sound brilliant.

All sounds a bit far fetched tbh.
#1 She should know that the car's not taxed and tax it!
#2 The insurers don't have to tell you that the renewal is coming. They just tend to so they can keep your business
#3 How long has she been driving with all those points? If she receives points (and she should) for driving without insurance that is a minimum 6 points, totalling 12 points and an instant ban. Unless she has only recently passed her test she should already have been banned with 6 points

Doesn't look to good, putting it that way.

Says the person who started a sentence with a lower case letter...
Chris :)
He also didn't use a full stop. :)
I don't really think she has much of a leg to stand on. It will be written into the contract that she has to send proof of her no claims within a certain period of time. If she doesn't then the insurance company can just cancel the contract.

About the proof of no claims... when you do your insurance whether over the phone or on the internet they do state you need to send it off to them so surely common sense would have kicked in and she would have thought 'ok i'd better give them a call to check up on that'.
Ignorance gets you nowhere tbh :p

oh its fair dos to the no tax, she had no problem with that, it wasn;t due for renewal, they cancelled it (they told after this incident) she missed her payment in september 06 (a year ago) so they cancelled it, but never informed her and of course cos they're all cost cutters there was no recorded post for the cancellation letter.
she is in her 4th year of driving so past the probation period so she didn't get banned the first time, and i thought she'd get banned this time but the copper hasn't done anything..said it's happened to him, and to ask him if she needs any help sorting it out...
but my sister is on cloud cuckoo land, i mean as far as i know the company hasn't taken any money out of her account since october 2006 (the original insurers) surely she'd notice? blondes eh!, but theres no way the new company has informed her before cancelling

surely she would know she wasnt paying insurance if she missed a payment and no money was coming out her bank...
all sounds like bollocks to me

haha yeah she is a numpty hasn't got a clue really, i just think it's a bit off that they cancelled it without warning, i got tonnes of warning for my cancellation

She does sound a bit blonde.
Of course you would know if your payments haven't been going out.
I find it unlikely that the insurance company didn't inform her of their intent to cancel the policy. Unless they do that they can't legally cancel the policy

i had this... sort of... went with swinton first year with my clio.... got a years no claims and i also got a bonus year so i've been driving a bit over a year but i have 2 years ncb... i rang 1 insurance company for my sax and the guy said he had heard of it as he had one himself...
rang up thames and city... i tell them i got 2 years ncb and the guy said "Impossible... you've only been driving a year..." and i said yeah it's a bonus year... he said "Never heard of it will need proof of that... it's impossible".
so i sends the letter of proof and 2 days later i recieve a letter basically with an attachment wanting my sort code bank account details to bump my premium.. i rang them saying i had sent them my only legitimate proof of my bonus year... they said there isn't such thing...
I told them to ring my old insurer Swinton for conformation of this or i will contact trading standards... you have at some point recieved this letter of comformation stating that i have 2 years ncb with driving for only a year... one of you fucking lemons have probably got it said "Whoah lets pretend we didn't see this and kicks it into the bin"
The guy says "We can't just ring an insurer for proof we have to take several steps"
I said no i'll tell you what to do for once... you ring them get them to fax you my bonus year.. or i hang up now ring trading standards and sew the fuck out of you my return number is 01472 32**** Then hung up...
2 hours later i recieved a phone call from the executive of thames and city basically apologizing for the inconvenience and disruption after being on the phone for 3 hours arguing and nagging and trying to prove it... they lowered my insurance £100 which was £1000 now £900 and gave me my deposit back... "He stated any more problems in the future contact me directly"...
Ha ha... i loved that day...

tbh if shes driving round with no tax and insuarnce then fuck the cheap ass. no offence but if shed had hit anything insurance wouldnt pay out. especially if she had non nehow . next youll say shes forgotten her MOT lol if your gonna drive car you gotta keep the paper work uptodate its not just a simple put in petty and go, im sure shed notice the money not going out her account?
no insurance and tax is nightmare for modders if they cant claim, specially people who are on 3PF&T etc
insurers will say somewhere in small print, if you dont supply proof of no claims they will cancel or will bump up price.

agreed totally, her first time there was no excuse and i gave quite abit of abuse to her for it. the second time makes no sense though, she told me she rang them about the no claims and they simply re-quoted her another £100 on top or something. what i think has happened is the person on the other end of the phone put the phone down, started to amend the details when someone esle rang and they forgot about it so it got cancelled, lazy baastards haha

Spose the 2nd time is her come uppance i spose. cautious though if you try fight it then you bring more attention. like my mate who bought a scooter with 1 years free insurance. come getting new insurance he rang up for no claims to be sent to him (as he went for new company) only to find they had no record of him.... meant no insurance for the year. so its case of do you kick off and get done for driving round with no insurance or shut up and carry on normal lol#

who knows eh i'd personally forget about it the police have let her off i'd just move on and pay the extra for an insurance company you can trust :y:
