Im having a bit of trouble with my saxo vtr 1998(R)

Right where do i start! when driving the car it just randomly cuts out, but it only does this on occasion like it will do it for a couple of days or weeks and then stop for a few weeks then start again.

It seems to judder when i put my foot down on the accelerator at that point i know its going to cut out very soon.

The thing is, the revs dont just go down then back up, it cuts out everytime and its really starting to piss me off as it probably would 2 anyone!

A while back when it first started i tried a coil pack that i borrowed off someone to try, still nothing, changed spark plugs, HT leads and still nothing. i was thinking maybe it could be the lambda sensor or map sensor?

What does everyone think? any help is appreaciated:D

-Thanks!

PS~ it does it when its warm mainly and once its cut out it takes a while to get started again, and sometimes when it starts again it cuts out again straight away :panic:

Had a similar problem on my old Fiesta... basically needed to change the injector unit as it was failing... Could have been £400+ if i hadn't got a second hand one thank god.

Had the car at a garage about 3 times before they found out the problem, had to have it put on a diagnostic machine.

Its had to tell problems like this.

Is the problem fuel of electric related ?

Check your sparks ok on each plug at a time simple things like that. Its not very often you will have a fuel related problem these days. If you cant find anything your best taking it to a garage to be put on a diagnostic machine. This will give you a good idea whats wrong then you can always change the part yourself. Last time i had a car put on one it cost me £30 it only takes a few min and then when i had fixed the problem i took it back the checked it again and cleared the fault memory for me

Could be the idle contol valve but most likely it's probably the fuel pump as the engine will cut out if it isn't getting enough fuel.

Mine was the inlet manifold sensor. As above might be easier to get it on the diagnostics.

There is a world of things this could be, one of the easiest things to do is check over all your connectors and sensors unplugged squirt some contact cleaner then re-connect. If it does it when its warm my money would be the TDC sensor try taking it out giving it a good clean and giving it another go. If you know anyone with a saxo that may be willing to do a swap just so you can test might be helpful

Thanks very much for all your comments! i had a look at it last night took the intake off and i found oil inside and a little bit in the air box, and to be honest it has been going through a lot of oil over the past few months, so wheather that sheds any light on things, maybe engines on its way out or head gasket? any ideas?
