Engine is making a tapping/knocking noise it around 1800rpm can here it alot more when the engine heats up and the oil thins. Oil pressure light comes on when at running temp. I have just fitted a brank new uprated oil pump and still the same. Oil pressure light goes off as soon as i touch the throttle. Engine has just been rebuild so shouldn't be the bottom end. Sounds like it may be the hydralic lifters but i would have thought they would have been noisey all the time.
ANY HELP AS I'M STRESSING OUT TRYING TO WORK OUT WHAT IT COULD BE?
THANKS

Working on it at the moment. Fitted new lifters one was away.
I've been told i should have primed the new oil pump before i fitted it.
I checked the haynes manual and it doesnt say anything about doing that.
Gonna give it ago tonight see if i get decent pressure.
CARS GOING UP FOR SALE IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED.
Can't afford to run two cars anymore and its not practical using it for work.

Just seen the car in your thread, looks good and impressive spec. What you planning on selling it for?
P.s hope you get the problem sorted.

Yes you should prime the pump before fitting it mate.
The pick up pipe isnt blocked or anything silly like that is it
Hope you get it sorted

I had this problem on my corsa and it was the oil pick up line that was blocked. Had go to get all the sump took off and everything flushed that solved it

just finished putting it back together.
Primed the pump.
Spoke to a engine builder earlier he said that would be the problem.
Just waiting on the sump gasket to set give it a go tomorrow morning.
Dunno yet. Open to offers.
Spent around 4k on it in the last 6months maybe more

Na it was top end tapping. It was the lifters.
Engine has just been rebuilt.
Checked the crank/shells again tonight when i had the pump out and they were fine.

Thats a fairly common fault with Vauxhalls mate. The servicing needs to be kept on top of really

Awrite mate.
I am just pissed off with it. Prob something simple but can't be arsed spending anymore money or time on it.
If i get offered decent money for it i'll let it go.
If not i'll just keep it and have a look at it once the weather gets a bit better.

Thats the problem with doing wild things to them..
If something isn't done correctly it can be catastrophic..

Worst part is everypart is new just about. Thats why i know it cant be the crank, oil pump or that.
Its really weird.
All i can think it may be is some excess gasket sealer has blocked the oilways.
It was fine at the start but by mate who is a mechanic honed the cylinders when we put the new rings in. He never done it properly and we were getting blow by.
So the engine came back out and i gave the block to browns engineering in edinburgh who checked everything over and honed it.
Said the engine was perfect. Got it build back up and then have a pressure problem.
Don't have it in me to take the engine out again.
:wall: fucking annoying as fuck.
Especially after spending around 4k and alot off time cleaning and building the engine.

I know this was a whil ago but have you got this sorted yet??
Ive rebuilt my VTS Turbo and I had a problem with oil pressure to. Bought a new oil pump, tried everything but nothing would work. Turned out the guy that stripped my engine down didnt give me back the oil squirters that point in to the bore from the bottom of it- took me 9 months of trying different things and replacing parts before I found this out!!!!!
Got a pic if your not sure what I mean...

This happened to me when I put oil in that was too thin, maybe try flushing the existing oil through, utting a new filter on and refilling it with a thicket grade oil?
