It must be blowing for a reason. If you up the amps you might do some other damage to switch/realy/wire etc...
What does the fuse operate?

As said above find out what the fuse is running too before upgrading the amps.

If you put too high a fuse in it wont trip out and then you could possibly burn your wiring loom, or maybe even the entire car.

When you say its next to the battery, what colour/size is the cable? (im guessing its an in-line fuse and not one in the fuse box?)

Is it one of these?

well first i would start checking the wiring for any signs of damage as there may be something shortcircuiting. Then look at whats on that circuit that may have broken

Theres two power feed wires come off the engine loom near to offside multiplug, and they go into that fuse box. Disconnect them, and check that they arent damaged, as Ive seen that happen before, and Im sure it popped fuse 1.

Do you mean when you change from 3rd to 4th gear it blows the fuse?

probably a gear linkage touching something then. Make sure the wiring is held back in its wee plastic bracket down by the starter motor. And check that the starter power cable cant touch anything.

Think i have sorted the problem now if not then i will be seeking leagl advice.

Looks like the guy has fitted the loom underneath the rad hoses behind the engine instead of above it which was causing a short everytime i changed gear. I have managed to cable tie the loom out of the way for now till i get time to do it
