View Full Version : 6x9s VS Midbass

Ok, I know everyone hates 6x9s but I'm after a bit more bass, I mostly listen to rock and metal. I have a 10" sub at the moment in a good non ported box but the response isn't really quick enough for fast songs with double kick drums and bass guitar. So which would give me more bass with descent response? Also I assume the mid bases would work better in a box?

I currently have a set of amped up comps in the front, I know people will no doubt say about music coming from the front etc but I like being "immersed" in the music and these will be fitted in the rear.

Some comp's amped up front and a sub amped in the boot should sound great .

just mess about with the gain on the amps to get the best sound for you .

Forget about the 6x9 things .

sell the 10 inch and get twin 8 inch subs if you want punchy ness.

build a better suited box for the 10"

If you want punchy bass try and put the sub in a sealed box,and get a good set of comps amped up front.

DJsaxo is right, I am currently running amped up comps and a 10" sub. The comps do sound great but just want some extra bass.
I've had a fiddle with the amp settings but it doesn't really help in that respect. It sounds fine on some stuff and dancy stuff but it's really just how quick the response is, as said the box is non ported so it is pretty punchy. I don't really like the sub box anyway so replacing it is the aim so it's more a question of whats going to work better. 8" sub/subs may be an option...

Yer replace the box because the box you have may not be right for the sub or maybe a buy a secand Sub .

Thanks for the answers.
The sub is amped up too, the box should be ok size wise (assuming my maths was ok!) although at the top end of the scale, it's similar to this:

This week I am listening to coheed and cambria, soilwork and divine heresy. In fact divine heresy/fear factory is a great example, the fast, tight kick drumming just sounds a mess through the sub
Maybe the box is too big for what I want for it but it's within the spec.

Spikeydaves, thanks it would be intersting to hear what you find out.

The sub is an infinity reference 1050 http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/infinity-reference-1050w-p-4231.html
SPL comps (which sound great)

The amp is an older sony 4 channel, which I can't find a link for. It's bridged for the sub - Reportedly Sony aren't the best quality but it sounds good to me and plenty loud.

Make your own thread you will get more intrest and more help.

But don't put the 6x9's in as they are fucking shit ( read the sticky on way ) , then get some compent speakers amped in the front and then just a 10 inch sub amped to go in the boot .

if yoiu get theright speakers , amps and wiring you should get a get sounding systeme in you car .

If you really want more and punchy bass then i would get a new sub and amp as infinity and sony arent rated very well.I would go with re-audio,Diamond,JL audio, gensise(sp) just stick with the best names, and its worth buying some sound deadening aswell.

Cheers.
Should probably have mentioned that the doors, boot floor and boot sides are all sound proofed - I just don't want to splash out on a new sub for it to sound much the same, the sub does sound good on some stuff just not in faster bassy songs.
