I have a silver vtr and its doing my head in:panic: :panic:

I have tried different things but i cant remove the light swirls on the bonnet!
I`ve tried Megs Scratch-x which didnt really do anything at all, Autoglym paint restorer which brightend it up but the swirls were clearer and i use the megs 3 step system which is said to reduce and help remove swirls but it aint doing what it says!!!

Tbh im scared to use a clay bar. Ive heard good things but i've also heard if done wrong it scratches your car to fook:panic: I dont want to put anything too abrassive on it can anyone help!?

And please remember im female so nothing that requires arms of steel to get it back off!! My Dad has a polishing machine so i could borrow that but i dont really like using it:n:

HELP

There car needs to be 100% clean before using a clay bar. A clay bar wont remove swirls though, it will only remove contaminents and oxidation. You would need to use something such as a UDM(ulitimate detailing machine) or a PC(porter cable) in order to successful remove swirls using three step polishes.
Hope this helps

porter cable will get the swirls out but they cost loads. the clay bar only removes contamanents that stick to the paint like sap from trees etc. you could try the megs paint conditioner stuff. i've used that and it removes some of the swirls. you've just got to take your time.

dont be scared to use the clay bar btw, they are fairly straight forward.

if you do claybar it be prepared to show up more swirls. so you wanna be prepared to polish it.

so by hand AG SRP is about your best bet. basically you want to do a panel at a time. so one wkend do the bonnet. door the next, as doing it properly will take ages. happy polishing ;)

Just takes time, just dont rush or you will affect the end result. Think i deserve some repage for the first bestest answer dont you :y:

Wash gently - washmitts and foam lance to minimize any more swirls

Clay bar using good lubrication (usually comes with)

Dry always using plush and water magnet towels

Get busy with that machine polisher of your dads and use a swirl buster polish like Sonus and then some AG SRP like Bullit suggested

Good advice matt aswell :)

get yourself on detailing world and pay a well known member to come and take them out

i wouldnt bother doing any of the above as the chances of ag getting rid of them completely is unlikely and i wouldnt even consider removing swirls with a udm etc until ive had hours of practise on a spare panel

unless they're major swirls i wouldnt be too worried about it tbh.

Id always had this image of super cars and so forth having immaculate paintwork with not a swirl in sight.

Went to the mph show at the NEC on sunday and constantly kept checking out the paintwork and not a single car in the whole place had a swirl free finish.

Bugger it, its the glossy shine and being dirt free that matters imo now :)

Like built says if your only hand polishing the SRP would be your best bet, with alot of elbow greece :) Might not remove many but it's your best option for applying by hand.

Like Clone says by hand that will be your best bet but iv spent four hours alone
on polishing and it cant do the job anywhere near as well as a PC or
UDM and will take you at least 10x as long!

Use the machine and use Willsy's advice, i doubt pefect, flawless paint is your goal because its do damn hard but getting that clean and glossy-wet finish is easily achievable

Willsy - Whats cars and companies were there?
