Is there anyway to get the engine to sound deeper or less ticky? I want it to sound more sporty from under the bonnet.
Thanks

thats probably your tappets. Stick an induction kit on it and it'll sound different when you accellerate, other than that spose all you can do it check tappet adjustments and that it has oil in it...

Air filter for good sound.
And also get your tappets looked at if its making a 'tick tick tick tick' noise, or even a 'tap tap tap'.

Im hoping to get an air filter soon! Whats the best to get for a good sound and better performance?

The 8v TU engines are very rattly/ticky engines anyway..
After about 40k or so they will get louder and louder..

tappets tappets tappets!! i re adjusted mine in the summer easy job with the help of a haynes manual. made mine quieter. you could try and induction kit too. that'll create a deeper tone from the engine as said above.

Mine engine is sweet as a nut for 84k, it started to tap abit now though but it needs a oil change though :y:
Though my clutch makes a squeekin noise when cold then disapears when clutch is down :n:

Sound proof the entire engine bay so you only get exhaust noise ;)
The only way really is to check tappet measurements, this will seriously reduce noise/fuel costs and give a better performing engine if they are out.
