After reading a thread I just found that the VTR nearly matched my 1.1's petrol consumption (not good) Now I do a variety of driving it vaires every week I do a journey to kettering along a fast A road and town driving.

On average I do 160 miles a week. And that's for my £15 of petrol.

I'm wonderring if we could get a few people to top up next time round just £15 of petrol state the price per litre, how many miles you got from it, type of petrol, where from.

We could then compare the 1.0, 1.1, 1.4, VTR, VTS, Auto, Diesel, 106 GTI. And anyone else who decides to join in.

You'd be better off filling a tank to the brim re-setting trip counter and fill to the brim next time, record the milage & number of litres to fill.

£15 will buy a different amount of fuel depeneding where you are!

Well at 99.9p a Litre for £45 I get about 370 miles out of my vtr mk1 black top

sound about 45-50mpg... which isnt bad for a 1.1

VTR's are quite good on motorway jaunts because of the overdrive gear.

Mine wasn't on the motorway either, i hasten to add!

Motorway jouneys get about 40ish mpg, the auto box uses a bit more fuel.

I don't know who's VTR that is. I used to get 150 miles to £15 when petrol was cheaper. I put £15 in the other day and got 90 miles out of it. That was at 99.9p a ltr. But my driving has changed as I don't do a motorway run anymore and I'm stop start all the way to work and back which is around 12 miles. In August I got 43mpg out of it on a 100mile A-road and motorway commute each day though

I never take any noyice of how much fuel goes in my car or how many miles I get from a tank.

Usually stick a tenner in at a time and get about 80 miles out of that before another tenner goes in.

Full tank = unnecessary weight = greater fuel consumption;)

too true, never fill the tank, £15 gives me half a tank hence why I mentioned it :y:

Just topped up with super unleaded V power from shell, waiting to see a difference tbh (bit extra cash=better petrol)

David

I couldn't tell any difference, and my MPG actually suffered, which was quite weird... So I've gone back to 95.

totally town driving i get aorund 250 -300 miles from a full tank in my VTR. Mostly sensible driving with the odd "hooligan" moment

Why do you think its better? Because it costs more?

I heard it damages the engine.. Put it in once and didnt feel any difference.

Andy72

i thnk the only difference is the octane rating of 97 as opposed to 95. Just makes the car run a bit smoother aparantly although ive never noticed any difference personally

I heard it damages the engine..

WHAT??? Why would they sell it if it damages your engine?

I've used 95-98 ron fuels in my car and there is a slight improvement in how the engine runs with better quality fuels and higher octanes but you'd have to really pay attention to notice

stalkah66
29th November 2007, 13:01
To be honest the higher the octane rating isnt really going to be noticed on most saxo engines as the compression isnt high enough. Also to get the full effect from the higher octane the ignition time will need to be adjusted.

The fuel can cause problems to pronounce their self more in an engine, so an engine with a small mis fire can have a big mis fire with a higher octane fuel, no idea why. And would recommend no-one uses it if their engine runs hot.

Low sulphur, should technically make her run smoother. No difference what so ever, only done ten miles so far with the petrol in however. Also read around for the best petrol for clearing the engine and producing the smoothest ride and V-power came up, first time for everything!

Some cleaning fluids (get the gunk that settles on the top of the tank out) can harm your engine if not used appropriately.

There's something they put in V power which is the reason why I would never put it in my car. Not that I would anyway as I wouldn't notice a difference. My dad doesn't put V power in his Tamora and so far we've only put 95 ron in the Chimaera so I definately wouldn't put in my saxo

I'm glad this popped up. I usually wait until the needle is ON the red bit.. I then fill up about £38 and generally get about 175 miles maximum out of this before starting the process all again...

I know thats not right, But what the hell could be wrong to cause fuel to go that quickly? I do not drive like a complete tit either =/

Edit: Its a 99 VTR

2001 VTS, worked out that I'm getting about 300 miles on a £35 full tank with reasonably careful driving. Use normal unleaded, super does nothing but drain the wallet in my experience. 102.9p round my way though :(

full tank around 300 miles of motorway driving 75 mph steady drivnig no pounding the accelerate to overtake, and around 80-120 of short 10 min journey to work and back so id always get between 350-420milse off a full tank depending on the motorway traffic speed,

Hanuman
30th November 2007, 12:48
far better on the motorway cruising than short town journeys
