Worth getting one? much difference between that and the s box? take it that the s2 box has the sport syncs etc

i think it has more or less the same ratios as a 1.4 xsi.
Dont quote me on that tho

If your buying from ebay make sure you get the codes off them and make sure they take a pic of the code.

goes s1 xsi s2 vts so slightly better
Ryan
29th November 2007, 17:12
yes it uses the sports gearset, same as all rallyes/xsis/gti/vts.
s2 is a good box tbh, a mate fitted one to his 16v and you did feel a totally different characterisitic to the way the car picked up

is the top end on an S2 box better than an S1? (when fitted to a 16V)
Ryan

yes due to the different final drive
Steve

S2 isnt to bad about 80mph is 4k revs!!
Steve
29th November 2007, 18:41
S2 isnt to bad about 80mph is 4k revs!!
similar to a VTS then isnt it?
so it will accelerate faster than an s box?
looked at the ratios and basically dont understand, all i can see is it wont do such a high speed in each gear lmao
vtr130
29th November 2007, 18:52
The final drive is shorter, so it will go through the revs quicker to less mph... To keep you in the rev band better ;)
Steve
29th November 2007, 18:54
thanks for clearing that up for me! cheers should get similar mpg when not giving it soem dont really go over 65 on motorways anyway
vtr130
29th November 2007, 18:59
If u dnt go over 65 get an xsi box or an S1
Steve
29th November 2007, 19:02

lmao i do sometimes but its rare plus s2 box is very local ideally would have just put a VTS box back in.
Plus s1 boxes are fairly old now, saying taht an s2 box be 10 year old nearly :panic:

u should get your fly wheel l&b too mate
the man him self, i thought about it, i started a thread a while back about it looks to be a bad idea tbh people putting holes in their bonnets etc
Steve
29th November 2007, 20:31

or a fly wheel cleaner or something?
griff
29th November 2007, 20:32

dan_87
29th November 2007, 20:36
say if you got a s1 box for acclaration but use the car on a motorway everyday for work...could you take the 5th gear out of the s1 box and swap it for one out of a vtr box for example, just for better mpg on a motorway?

search my past threads it will reveal all! one about lightened and balanced flywheels
Ryan

they should only be L&B in a certain way, and doing so can still weaken them in some cases.
a weaker fly spinning at high rpm can equal a fly wheel disintergrating itself, the gearbox and the bonnet etc.....

yeah top bloke, spoke to him about L/B a 1.4 xsi FW then drilling it for a 200mm clutch - my mates also in talks with him about boding his GTi.
your not Ryan Cooke off the RR are you lol?
Steve
30th November 2007, 11:54
so should i just leave my flywheel alone nice and rusty? bother cleaning the clutch (change 4k mile ago) and flywheel with some cleaner from halfrauds while the box is off?
Ryan

thats only surface rust on the flywheel, most cars have it.
if ur gonna get it L&B dont just let any bodge merchant do it
