Does anyone know anything about their family history?

And does anyone know where you can find out about you own?

I know there was CD's you could buy from WHSmiths that helped you track down your family history and create a timeline

My mums done a fair bit & tracked waaaaay back.

There's some family history things on line & you can go to records offices etc. if you want to have a proper look. Not easy but think you pick it up once you get into it a bit.

Got to pay for most of the ones online.......seems dodgy you have to pay to look up your own records....

Electoral roles help a little but you really need to get to records offices to track peoples proper records & how they're linked with each other.

The CD's you can buy only tend to help you setting things out & giving you tips etc. Don't actually help you track down people that you haven't found yet.

Saying that, if you do a bit of digging on line you can buy CDs with the census details on from years back (can't have the recent ones for a certain amount of time). I know my mum had one but it came on about 6 CDs or something stupid lol

my family owned lots and lots of land and were very rich and owned various companies my great great grandad passed away and his daughter gambled etc and lost all of the family wealth so now were just normal :(

Saying that It would be great to know........as I only know as far back as my grandad and nan and they both died way back in there late 50's.....

No idea of great grandparents......aunties, uncles and so on....

I have one Aunty who I always see.....but the rest I have never met and they have never met me...no xmas cards or bday presents....dont think they even know I exist.....

Only decent thing i know is my Dad used to play football with Steve Clark at St Mirren whilest Alex Ferguson was there too and my Grandad (who i no longer speak to) is a millionaire.

Then when i was 11 all comunications stop for no reason, havnt spoken to them since.

They did the exact same with my cousin Colin too.

Only grandperson they speak to is there granddaughter my cousin. But thats because they think the sun shines outa her arse.

Sister hasn't seen our dad since january shes only 15, doesn't like our stepmum, shame really as its my sisters birthday tommorow and sister don't want to know. Hasn't spoken to him since january either.

me mams side only found out most of mine (or to that i understand)

me mams dad was polish he was involved in the wars ect taken to a concentration camp escaped came to the uk met a women she tried to kill him for whatever reason so he changed his polish last name to a normal name to get out of the papers ect, had think 6 kids 5 to one women 1 to another, he died 4 of the family kids went mental scammed me ma and her sister out of his will, messed about with shares he had spossidly a hell of alot of money in some sort of shares, so me mam never spoke to them 4 for around 10 years still hasnt forgiven em, me mams siter was the kid of the other women so she doesnt like any of the other 4 wont speak to them full stop. all proper mental, wont even go into me dadas side its more confusing lol
