ive been in this same situation quite a couple of times....

It's even worse due to the fact that i was caught going through a red light... even though it had only just changed as i went over the line. I remember the camera showing that i was about .07s too slow.

Anyway i'm pretty sure you'll be fine... just for the next two weeks be prepared to shit yourself everytime the mail comes.

Good Luck

i did.... but this was like a month after i passed so my dad kindly took them coz i was using the family car not my saxo.

anyway, i now have an abnormal fear of traffic lights with cameras. i even try to avoid them now. Thats how bad its got.

i was told they useually trigger at 35,anything under is iffy as you could try and argue your speedo is/was out eg

you were doing 33 but on your speedo it read 30

but think with 35 they know it wont be mph out so can do you for it

lol how long b4 its gone again then

You'll probably get done mate.

My Dad got done other week by a mobile one doing 36mph in a 30, so I'm guessing you probably have a letter through your door.

Barry123
1st December 2007, 11:06

chances are he would be doing around 32-33mph... its close, but he might get lucky.

Sit tight for a couple of weeks mate, you might be lucky but they can technically still do you if it was a speed camera van.

i heard some where (i may be talking shite) but speed cameras (in cars and vans etc) must be over 40mph and arent very acurate... as they can be 5 mph off or 10 if ur lucky...

Think that's one of those rumours, speed cameras have to be calibrated which means theres no way they could be up to 10mph out.

VTR_Nick

they could give you point dought it will be set that low:y:

is there no things that tell you how fast your going near school ect not a camera just make u aware, i went threw a mobile van at 35 on the clock, checked my speedo on the awareness one at 35 and it was only 31 in reality

featherz
1st December 2007, 16:39
A speed camera will do you for 33 but a van camera can only do you 10% + 2 mph so thats 35 mph, i reckon you are ok.... but ya never know most speedos read quicker than your going anyway!

Goodluck!:afro:

SaxoJamie
1st December 2007, 16:59
Try not to worry about it too much, saxo speedo's aren't accurate so you may not have been going as fast as it said on the dials. Next time though, try and stick to the speed limit, I know it's hard, I find it really hard tbh but at least it minimises the risk of getting caught speeding. Fingers crossed for you mate:y:

34 i think u will be alright like the rest, especially if its raining! - also, how shit are speed cameras at LIGHTS!

There pathetic if your 0.7 too late, i say this because there are some light on a 40mph road and i know you read the road ahead and if there green there about 2 change ofc but it hardly ignores the fact that its a disruption in the trafic flow!

Andy72
1st December 2007, 21:53
thing is, by the time you saw the van, looked down at your speedo, he probably already had you much before that. They park up in places where either a) they can get you from 1/2 mile away eg dual carriageway bridges or long straights, or around a curve on a road they know people speed on so you dont have ime to react. I'd expect a letter imo

Mochachino
2nd December 2007, 00:19
yeh, i go through one of them everyday my speado says im doing 35 but the sign always says 29-30ish, if my speado says 30 then the sign says 24-25mph

SaxoJamie
2nd December 2007, 16:47
I went past one of these last week. I think my speedo is at least 3mph out cos the saxo dials said 34mph but the sign came up with only 31.

A 30mph speed camera will not go off at 33mph.

The allowance you have is 10% + 2mph. I am 100% on this. My dad was recently in court over speeding and one of the things he had was a direct quote from the cheif guy in the police who handles the road / speeding side of things saying they will not prosecute anyone within this amount.

So if you were doing 35 in a 30 you should be ok, simply because although thats right on the limit of your "allowance", your speedo is probably out a slight amount anyway so it should be ok.

as said ^^ speedos cant be that far out we have 2 cars and the freelander has 17s as standard and the saxo has its standard 14s if we go side by side and sit at 30 to 40 the their speedos read the same !!!

I read something the other week about the van cameras being totally unreliable from over 40 feet away, i think, there was a big thing about the cameras being scrapped in certain counties or something or other!

i think i remember in laymans terms, a gatso will capture at +3mph of the limit, but mobile vans capture at +5mph the limit so you should be right

Saw a cheeky sod the other day, on my home from a halfords, going through a village its 30mph, i always stick to the 30 as it says theres cameras, then saw an police officer looking like he wanted to cross the road, but when a car came in his direction he slyly put up a tiny camera to his eye and looked at the car? what would that be, he was just standing on the pavement doing this? any ideas?

jeeves_101

as you were below the next 10mph increment, i.e. you are doing anything upto 39 in a 40, you'll be offered the chance to do the speed awareness course instead of getting the points.

can you get done for doing 25 in a 30 zone? well if the limit is 30 and you was doing 35 then yes i should think you can, although your speedo isn't your true speed so on your speedo you was doing 35 you was probably only doing about 30 any way so you might be safe.

of corse you can get points for doing 35 in a 30.....you stupid? the law states 30mph (in built up areas) so us, the general public must stick to the rules....yes speedo's are out, that doesnt mean you can go 35mph in a 30 zone.

why not just stick to whatever it says on your speedo? then your driving safe :y:

exactly....so even if your speedo is out 3-5% if you stick to the speed limit on your speedo....your going slower than 30mph anyhow...which is safer

you dont have to go 30mph on the dot just cos the law says so

EDIT - it also doesnt mean that you can go above it either people :P
