I think go as separate characters, far more individual that way..
Heres a pic of a few of us who went out dressed up for a friends birthday over the weekend. Many more dressed up too and everyone looked completely different!

sisters is crap few of me mates always get dressed up for the big darts tourney they were on sky at blackpool lad 6'4 wearing a nuns outfit didnt go down a treat with the public in the streets like, best iv seen em in is a shark, all dressed as babys, and as a horse i think
