Sorry that the title was breif other wise i cannot post lol, anyways got a my dad a car the other day it was a mercedes c240 elegance, on the way driving it home i realised that the heater isnot working so took it to my mechanic and he said that it could be the thermostat, then when i opened the radiator cap to see if it had water in there it had all this shit in there, the mechanic said could be the head gasket going, i brought the caR off a trader is there anything that i can do? I went on the trading standards website and rerad their stuff but just wondering if anyone ever had a problem like this and would do you reckon that i should do?

All makes sense now!
If it's white gunk it could be the head gasket. Easy enough job for a mechanic to do. Unfortunately most used cars are sold as seen so anything that occurs after you've handed over your money would be classed as reasonable wear and tear

A gasket isn't expensive GSF cars should be able to supply one. Couple of hours work top for any decent garage. Should't have to be a Merc Garage that does the work

How much would it cost to get the gasket and the work from a normal garage, roughly?

Not sure mate. Best to ring a few garages close to you and see if they can quote you over the phone

you should have a 3 month warranty off a dealer and it should cover the engine. my gf has an aclass so be prepared for a big bill if you take it to a merc garage for repair.
