XP, find vista is only graphically better than xp rather than anything else so to me it's not that much different.

Everything will be using Vista in a couple of years, especially school networks and businesses networks.

Serious.

Learn Vista now.

Building Schools For The Future?? BSF or something?

Personally its a matter of time before everyone goes Vista, may aswell just do it now, for the sake its just web and video encoding! If it was say an ultimate gaming machine then i would disaproove!

Karl

Exactly its said to be there going to stop updating XP soon aswell, basically fourcing everyone to move to vista, once it's all setlled down and with the price of PC's these days and components, theres going to be no problems running it at all, and i know working in a school we have this building schools for the future, and every pupil will have either a laptop or tablet which will be running Vista, based on a vista network, and they will only offer support for vista, its only going one way and thats forward, may aswell do it now, and keep up to date with updates!

Clouds_mate

They wont stop updating XP for a long time.

2000 was only stopped last year iirc

betty02
4th December 2007, 12:36
Was in a building schools for the furture meating last week, there looking at doing it alot sooner as there main focus point now is Vista and improoving that, and there moving most developers to that and only having a few finding the bugs in XP, dont hold your breathe its going to be alot sooner then expected ;)

May aswell prepair for the future whilst you can Leckie mate ;)

vista is overpriced and crap, its good for noobs to look at pretty things and big buttons but if i wanted that id buy a mac!

stick with xp as its alot better in many ways and all this vista is the future crap doesnt mean anything for atleast another year or so yet, as itll cost fortunes to upgrade everyone to it.

be hardcore and get linux back ;)

4th December 2007, 13:16
why? XP and Vista = owned by Microsoft, they would much appreciate it all vista as they get mroe, but there still get shit laods from Xp and Vista so happy, whilst mac steals there limelite, especially with Leopard, its amazing!

Get yourself a copy of Kubuntu 7.10. It's free and will have KDE 4.0 integrated by the end of January 08. No need for Windows if you're not going to be gaming.

Don't be fooled by these people that feel you have to be a "geek" and what not to run Linux. That's not the case, it's a piece of cake.

because xp sp3 is bringing more security updates and some features from vista.. If your a business your less likely to upgrade to vista when xp is just as good. therefore Microsoft are stopping themselves from getting more money and the like.

think there was another couple of reasons but i was asleep in the lecture.

Vista = DirectX 10..
XP = DirectX 9..

Games will be directx 10 only before XP is no supported.

Im still running XP64, but when I get a directx 10 card (Nvidia 9 series) then I will be going Vista, kicking and screaming.

why? XP and Vista = owned by Microsoft,

Yes, but most people own Xp already, so its not like they are choosing to buy one or the other. its a choice of buying or not at all because they already have xp. So it is a competitor really.

Also I would get XP Pro bud. The problem with Vista aint really vista itself, but other programs that still dont have good (or any) drivers to support themselves on that platform. So some of your programs may be useless, or you may be limiting yourself to programs that you might be choosing from in the future. Also the programs you have, may be buggy, or you might experience more issues that what you would running on XP.

I will move to Vista in a couple of years, once the rest of the world catches up and it runs smooth. Well smoothish ;P

Also, with the DX10 thing, if you dont play games dont worry about it. And if you do choose to buy a 9series Nvidia card or something similar, you can still use it on DX9 anyway

Well, he doesnt play game he said either, so why would he need Vista if your argument is to be able to use DX10 cards? :)

yes alot of people alread have Xp but when they made XP alot of epople ahd earlier versions, all well 95%+ of new PC's are being shipped with vista, so this will boost there sales, if someone was in a shop and wanted to buy a new OS, and the shop assistants were thee, they would persuede them to buy vista, which means more sales for vista, its like XP its still going on now with security updates, so is vista, tis the way things go ;)

why not have both and do a duel boot like me? Best of both worlds then. I find games run not as good with vista UNLESS you have a dx10 card

Windows XP ftw. Said it many times and i'll say it again.

Windows vista is trying too hard, it looks good.. but all the graphics and what not just slows your computer down. I mean why do you need a animated clock on your desktop? It does the very same as the simple XP clock in the bottom left.

End of the day

XP = Simple, easy, not many problems, runs most games. I.e What a computer should be.

Vista = Too many silly graphics, They've tried making it too user-friendly, Problems all over the place, Doubt it plays most games.

Bottom right ;)

But I agree, for the time being if you have hold of a copy of XP Pro I'd use that for reliability and compatibility for the time being. There's no reason you can't upgrade to Vista in the future if you really want to, or when they've started rolling the service packs out to sort out the bugs.

I run a triple boot, I have Mandriva Linux, Vista Ultimate, and XP pro 32bit,

Out of the 3 I'd have to say mandriva, it's fully loaded to be honest, and it's free, let me know if you want a dvd of it sending :)
