Do you NEED V-power? Note the word NEED. Will your car not run on 95RON unleaded? if so, save 7p a litre - that's about 30p a gallon. One free litre in every fourteen.
And yes, it will go on like this.

6th December 2007, 12:15
a few pence is hardly a killer on the pockets isit?
an extra 4p on 40litre of fuel is only about £1.60 is it not.
which on a full tank (40l) is pretty much fuck all.

I have friends with diesels and they spend more on fuel per mile than I get out of my saxo and knackered 1.8 16v astra
The most annoying thing is fuel prices at the moment are actually coming down - we're just not seeing it at the pumps quite yet.
Also the government slyly stuck 2p on every litre earlier this year. Bet you didn't notice that!!!

It's funny how we pay more tax on everything these days and it keeps going up, yet the services the government provide are getting worse! Wouldn't mind as much if we didn't have to worry about being killed by MRSA when going into hospital or being stabbed in the street because the police are too busy doing paperwork to help people anymore. This country is crap tbh!

people who say its a few pence sorry but thats gash, so next time you go to the shop and a packet of chrisps has gone from 40p to 80p you wont be bothered as its only what... 40p? petrol has flown up this year from around 87.9 when i got me sax in feb to like 1.09? how can that not bother you when its still going up with no signs of stopping, its NOT inflation which is maknig it go up its simply teh gov taking money, same as road tax, that goes up each year what does that cover? there is no reason why we pay around £1 per litre when the americans get around 3litres for £1 AND the "TAX" is built into the yanks petrol as in there is absolutely NO seperate charge for road tax, the only thing america dont get we do in the uk is health service, but then again ours isnt free as its paid by from our tax anyhow, petrol prices are a problem, people saying they aint are either on to much money or just to daft to realise

funny how all the cheapies are now going up, the government have clocked on that a. people were using diesel for long journeys and alot of money going on them so wooooop price of diesel compared to petrol now jumps up (even though there is no shortage or jump in diesel price) and as vick has said they are even putting auo gass up to to make sure they penalise anyone who thinks they are getting away with a cheap deal, sack the whole government and get it sorted do a football job and bring in a bloody yank for all i care, that way we can start wars for no reason rather than been the little girls and joining in on wars for no reason and weeping no rewards

Irritating thing is the amount of tax on fuel. It could be so much cheaper!
Also how come a year or so back when fuel jumped up to bout 90p (??) there was mass protests and blockades and people panic buying bread and petrol, yet now we're up to over a quid and nothing people are just rolling over and spreading there cheeks!

america is a highly stupid country with no care for anyone else other than themselves.
We have a finite resource of oil which wont last forever sadly. weening it off us now is better for us long term. people saying that petrol prices are a problem either have a car they cant afford to run (so should get a cheaper one) or too daft to think long term.

Yeah but apparently we only have access to a small percentage of oil in the earth. Its just too expensive to get to the rest without charging us for it unfortunately. :( Absolutely agree, America really needs to start caring about the world instead of bumming it 24/7... america sits on a VAST oil reserve that will last them for a looong time. as you say dude its too expensive to mine for, yet. in theory they could start mining it now with a similar pump price to that of middle eastern fuel. but because the analysts reckon this is a short term spike to crude oil prices, setting up the infrastructure then mining is probably not worth pursuing.
america i have to say have been very clever. drain everyone elses resources, before touching their own.

Yeah man, clever indeed. It will cost an absolute bomb to actually delve deeper in to get the oil, which would eventually burden the consumer horrifically. Damn tax, as much as we all hate paying the rates we do, it simply isn't going to go away. Actually thinking I'll get a derv when I eventually can't afford to run mine anymore:P

agree add, but sorry dude us paying high prices has nout to do with future supply, if it was then we wouldnt pay the high tax we did for the last 15years on it, agree with where you coming from but it isnt a case of, uk doesnt have as much oil supply as usa, so we NEED to charge more quite simply not the case, they make BILLIONS off oil otherwise they would be bankrupt them selfs the garages make billions selling it to us, nevermind the government considering they take more out of every litre we get than the dealers do, quite simply down to our governments greed nothing to do with the long term (not in there minds anyhow)

No worries at all man! i get bored of people just accepting my posts anyway without questioning them :y:
Its a double edge sword really... I tend not to get voice my political opinions on here but I have say I think there is a massive problem with our major political parties. Non of them are truly prepared to think long term and tend to spend more time avoiding questions, lying and generally trying to preserve their job (and whacking tax increases on everything thinking it will improve things). I also question the background of these major politicians and whether they are suitable to carry out the job they are required to do - often i think they are there based on their ability to chat shit.
anyway im waffling...
I've been doing a project for the last 4 months regarding the future of the UK in respect to road transport fuel (petroleum and diesel). Compared to the rest of Europe, we are way behind on progress in switching to more renewable fuels. Sweden and germany are leading well ahead, and whilst their fuel duty isnt all that much cheaper than ours, their citizens are much less angry about the cost than us.
I dont blame the people of this country, but i do blame the government (and previous government), they havent woken up to the need to change soon enough and because of that we've been hit hard by fuel costs and the tax increases.
education is important, in changing our perception of the car (i.e. luxury rather than a need) and questioning whether we really need to driving to a shop half a mile down the road. They havent setup to a meaningful alternative to the car in terms of public transport, london is on the right lines but the price is excessive. outside of london, although improving, is pretty shit.
and this is where the problem is, the government has seen the potential benefits from keeping people in cars and boosting the cost of driving... I dont actually know the break down of where our taxes go but im pretty sure we're paying for cock up by the chancellor which put us in a bit of debt. I think there needs to some streamlining of public sector services which would cut the demand on our taxes. I cant see that happening unfortunately.
waffle waffle waffle. I havent even considered the global warming problem, which the government use as a reason for the increases in fuel duty. thats quite a big issue to delve into though.

...The moral of the story is, if you have enough muscle, you can have oil at any price you want. Dead people in the middle east? Our troops killed without good reason? Who gives a shit? We the public do. The authorities that pull the strings don't, and thats what makes the decisions. Shitty times for us tbh. :n:
