i'm well pissed off, i was giving the car a clean today and thought i would have a check of my tyres, i had two brand new front tyres fitted on my astra coupe turbo and also had the tracking done at the same time, since then i have only done 1,800 miles and the front tyres are f***ed the inside edges are bold. Anyone know where i stand on this? i presume the tyre place will jsut say there a consumable item and tell me to bugger off but its the fact the car has only covered 1,800 miles since the tyres and trackign were done and now it looks like i am gona have to fork out another £200 for some tyres

My dad had it before on his merc paid 500quid for 2 new tyres had it tracked up and that and they were wearing on the inside and he hadnt covered many miles took it back and told em what n that and they banged him some new tyres on again and tracked em up.. although they could say some bullshit like they were tracked fine you must of caused the damage by pranging the front end or summing!!

i would for sure contact em and atleast ask mate!!! its the common case tho aswell somebody actually takes pride in there car and check it to make sure its legal and find misfortune and a nice bill

hope all goes well dude if they were completely bald aswell obviously you have been wheelspinning but the inside tread thats the garages fault not ures!!!1

gd luck

could of not tracked your car properly and it is wearing the tyres down much quicker, i would complain and tell them straight what has happened.

did the garage supply the tyres ?

have you still got the receipt ?

i know in my past experience ATS have replaced tyres for me as they were within a mileage/age range.

How does this happen? I don't understand all this tracking and wheel balancing malarky... Is the tyre put on like / or \ instead of l ?

yeah they supplied the tyres, fitted them and did the tracking and i have the receipt. i will call them tomorrow and see what they say but i know its going to be the same old stuff the garage i work at tell people "you must have kirbed it or knocked a wheel making the tracking go out of calibration"

I'd get a full wheel alignment done, not just checking the toe in/out, but also the camber of the wheels. If its out and the car is basically running on the insides of the tyres, that'll be the problem.

i doubt youll have much luck to be honest

i always fit my own tyres and track them in spose it comes working in a garage, i always beleived you were of the trade ?

how come you didnt fit them your self ?

i would do but the laser geomitry equpment i have at work will only work on mercedes benz alloys as i work for the mercedes benz garage and the calmps that lock onto the wheels have pins that fit the merc alloys only, plus the car has only done 19k so sould be nice and tight still on the camber and caster

yeah i am in the trade but there is a tyre center accross the road and it had a deal on that was cheaper then the tyres i could get at trade price so as it was cheaper i jsut got them to do it and it came with free tracking adjustment

have to have special machine to wheel balance certain wheels, if the tracking is out it wears the outside of the tyres.

i should have jsut got the tyres off them and fitted myself, at trade price i was going to get the new tyres for £160 as i wanted decent ones and then accross the road had the same tyres in and said they could do it for £125 all in fitted balanced and trackign adjusted. I said are they any cheaper if i jsut take the tyres and fit them myself and he said no its the same price we jsut need to clear our stock. So thoguht may as well jsut let them fit it while i am at work as its hard enough to get on the raps at work as it is as all 14 ramps seem to allways be occupied so dropped the car off in the morning and collected when the rang to say it was done

tracking can wear the inside and outside of the tyres depending if its toeing in or out

was it a big company or an independant garage ?

i know when you buy tyres from the leading companies such as ATS and Kwick Fit they should come with warranties.
(well when i bought some a few years ago they did)

your best bet, go down there and try and persuade your point, tell them the service is poor and you feel they should resolve the matter.

Yeah go in a say you aren't happy but be quite calm and nice at first otherwise they will be arsy themselves then escalate it if they dont do anything.
Surely tyres should last 10 times as much as they have so I think they should replace them for you.

My girlfriend got new tyres on her car and then it failed it's MOT due to one tyre being the wrong size. She went back to the place that put it on to get a new one and mentioned why to the guy, so they handed her the money for it without even being asked, no fuss or anything. I realise that was a bit easier to prove than your case stevenet15, but it goes to show that some places can be focussed on customer service and that you can get somewhere by talking to them. Good luck mate, hope you get it sorted out, especially with the price you paid!

That's a bit shit mate.

I'd take it back and complain though, as obviously something is wrong. I presume the car hasn't been lowered in those 1,800 miles?
