Now and again mostly when my vts is up to temperature, i dont get that pull at 4000rpm like i used to, the other day i tried when cold and it went and had that torquey pull, but then sometimes when warm, not all the time, it will feel underpowered and no upper end pull, any one shed some light on this please

Might be that the engine isn't getting enough fuel. Might just be clogged fuel injectors

im hoping it is. it doesnt happen all the time though thats the mad thing. its worse when i have another person in the car. he said to me there is no pull at all, and he used to have a 106 gti

Try putting some redex in next time you fill up:y: Is the car modified at all?

no its actually totally standard? do you not think it may be a sensor? its really weird. i have a sort of low rev misfire aswell like when i put foot down in second it will die for a second or 2 and then pickup

could be a few things mate

a gasket might have gone
fuel problem, injectors, fuel filter etc
spark plugs
coil pack/ht leads
could try a compression test too on the cylinders

What gasket? I know the head gasket is fine.
Fuel probelms maybe, are fuel filters hard to replace? Been using redex too.
Changed spark plugs
Changed leads, trying to get a coil pack(many problems just tring to get one and getting the old one off)
Idiots guide to doing a compression test?

fuel filters, theres a guide

gasket could be sump gasket, head gasket or cam cover gasket, most probablies the head one though

you got a haynes manual, explains about the compression test in there, if you do a search am sure you will find a few things

anyway heres a compression tester

http://www.toolsnstuff.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=9150

basically it will go where you put the spark plugs in, then start the car for a few seconds with throttle open and look at the reading, repeat for the rest and see what reings you get, they should all be more or less the same, if one is dramtically down then theres your problem, could be down to having your cylinders rebored (worst case) or the seals on the pistons, or the valves not closing all the way, seals on the valves

i think you can also manually turn the engine over which is what i would do just incase

you wouldnt lose power from a sump gasket and cam cover gasket. you would just lose f*ck loads of oil

redex in fuel tank and get some carb cleaner from halfrauds for a fiver just spray it into the intake, might be worth cleaning the throttle body as wel with that stuff my car has 30k on it and the throttle body was filthy!

lol i will give it a try. is that redex the best stuff to get for injectors then?
