right, after christmas im looking to buy a 106 gti, due to the unforseen misshap with the 'S', anyway, what are there strengths and weaknesses as much as i know the similarity ends with the engine so i do need help with what to watch out for, also is it true that the rear beams need re building most definatly after being lowered for a while And finally, anyone with 106 gti's what problems have you come across, rep will be given

Thanks

The 106 gti engine is exactly the same as the VTS engine.

The only differences may lie slightly in they way that their ECU is mapped.

The rear beam will have no problems when lowered if:

a- its lowered in the correct method(not splines)
b- take it easy over speedbumps

They're virtually the same cars as the VTS's.

What happened to the S mate.

Did you seeing my GTi "inspire you" lol. Okay I just sound big headed now. Sos.
Same care virtually but you pay more for the 106 GTis generally.

^^
Agreed, probably been ragged to death. Lowering it usually relates to rear axle
issues further down the line Im afraid if not done properly.

Ouch man sorry to hear! TBH mate either can be a mint example, Samcooks VTS
is verrry tasty imo. But then a GTi can look just as good too.

There's plenty of info on here on how to do it. It's really not that difficult, and you don't need to be a mechanic...

In Walsall Des Developments do it but they do charge an arm and a leg..
