Hey people. Had a cambelt change with the other bits so it was a kit about 12 miles ago. Thier is a very loud whiiring sound as if something is loose. It reminds me when the alternator belt is loose. I have checked the alternator belt and it seems fine. And the noise in question is deff coming from cam area and when placed under load i.e heathers on full or steering on full lock she whiirs more . My mate said it could be the cam bearings :S any ideas

did they fit full cambelt kit as it may be a pulley or tensoner? or does the noise get lowerd when only on full lock if so then this maybe the powered steering pump?

If it was the cam belt, you would hear it "whine" louder with more throttle. If this is the case, it's likely that belt is a wee bit tight. If it's more of a "whiring" noise, it could be rubbing against the cam belt cover.

Have you opened the bonnet while this noise is occurring, and checked precisely where it's coming from?

yep and my mates seem to think its coming from the cambelt area

If it's a "whirring" type of noise, then it sounds to me like the belt is catching ever so slightly on the cambelt cover. It's not too difficult to open up the top area of the cambelt cover. If you do this, you can check the state of the belt to see if there's been any abnormal wear to it. You will need to remove the ECU from its frame, but that's only 3 screws IIRC. You don't need to unplug anything...
