Hi, i have just bought a second hand saxo east coast (t reg) 1.1 and the biting point of the clutch is very high and is causing me to over rev. I have read that the bite on most saxo's is quite high and that others have had this problem. Can anyone please tell me if this is usual thing with saxos or will i need to get a new clutch pretty soon? also is there a way that i can test if the clutch is broke or just high? CHEERS!

tbh im pretty sure it means u need a new clutch. In reality a high bite means the clutch is on its way out. I very much doubt that the biting point will be different for a saxo than any other car. hope this helps :y:

Ahhhh i never thought it was a cable clutch! i thought this was a rare thing. My old nissan sunny had one of these and the clutch kept slipping. Released the bolt and gave it more room. Walah! job done!

i didnt no you could change the bite? i thought adjusting the cable only adjusted the actual hight of the pedal?

Nono not atall, if your clutch is slipping.(if you put your foot down and it revs like fuk) release the bolt and give it more room. Put it back together and the bite will be lower and the clutch should stop slipping. If this doesn't work, you need a new clutch!

...or a new clutch cable if you run out of adjustment :y:

lol, you would know if it was slipping trust me.
When you put the foot down, the gearbox slips out of gear into neutral and revs really hard. thus giving you no acceleration. Its as if you were putting the clutch down half way whilst accelerating. It happens mostly on hills because you want to accelerate but you cant, because it keeps slipping!
Hope this makes sense to you!:y:

lol, oh right! well i havent noticed any slipping and am having no problem with the gears so is there a way i can tell if clutch is knackerd myself (or my bro who knows a bit more about cars) without having to pay for a mechanic who will basically tell me that it is knackered anyway so he can make a few bob (which i aint got!) THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP GUYS REALLY APPRECIATE IT!

Tbh mate am not really sure. the only thing that should happen when the clutch is slipping is the revs will go up (because u will have your foot on the accelerator thinking its in gear) I highly doubt thats what this screaching noise is your hearing. Go get it checked!

The only thing i can say is the biting point. If its really high (assuming the clutch cable is extended fully) then the clutch is nearly at the rivets. Like this -

This pic prob wont really help but im jus showing you what its like. sorta like when a brake pad is fukd.
Hope this helps!:y:

cheers guys, just one more thing now (HONEST!) can u give me an idiots guide to checking if the cable is extended fully (just assume ur talking to someone who doesnt even know wot a car is) and wot is should be like (not how to change it or anything) THANKS ANYWAY IF NOT!

not sure about checking its fully extended but to re adjust the cluth cable u need to first measue the distance the clutch pedal is from the floor, then press cluth till touching floor and measure the distance between top of cluthc pedal pad and floor. write down these measurements. subtract the second measurement from forst one and if it comes to more that 18 cm then needs tightening.
to tighten you need to find the clutch cable and ajust the the nut on the transmission end. battery may need to be taken out to get at this or go underneth the engine, your choice. jack the front up and slacken the locknut from the end of the cluth cable and adjust the position of the adjuster nut then continuosly remeasure the clutch height untill corect. should be 180mm. make sure u securely tighten the cable locknut.
hope this helps. luke
