not make adsayer a muslim, but I've watching this Channel 4 series on the faith and I have to say it has been an eye opener. I've always considered myself to be open just about anything, but found the issues raised pretty interesting.

Anyone else being watching?

Discuss.

Ps... no, dont start with any white-power bollocks, instead just fuck off out of the thread.

I've only seen the start of this show and from what I saw I'm guessing people are becoming a muslim as they don't like their lifestyle. I don't agree with this, surely they should do it because they believe in that faith and not because they prefer the lifestyle? Correct me if I've got it wrong though!

to be honest, i havnt even bothered watching it.

i have muslim buddies, who i love to bits. i have probs with them, i have my faith and they have theirs, we eat, breath and shit the same.

i think putting this on tv is just to stir things and get a reaction. religion is peaceful fullstop, no matter what faith you are.
its only the extremists and the shit stirers that start all of the trouble, there is no need for this program to be aired on tv.

could be a eye opener, you think they have, make me a christian on their network stations abroad?

i doubt it

like i said, im not out to hate anyone and i dont.

i just think everyone should get along as a community, its only the small group of people who try to spoil it.
and there are people on both sides of the fence from different religions and walks of life.

i respect everyone, but i feel that this program has only been aired to stir these few people into blowing it up into something alot bigger than it is.

we are all here to live in peace, have fun and live life to the max. I dont care how each person does it, as long as its not disturbing my peace and my carma.

other wise there will be trouble ;)

Boz you are spot on.

Every time I read your sig it brings a tear to my eye because I've lost the best friend I'll ever have and it makes you put things into perspective.

At the end of the day we all need to treat others how we would expect to be treated and enjoy life! You only live once.

Not gettiong all hippy lovey dovey shit but you know what I mean?

hey buddy, its a tough life we live, bet your mate wouldnt want you getting upset and shit ;)

i know exactly what you mean bud.

i like to plod on with my life and help everyone i can, that way i feel that im doing something good, shit, i go out on a limb for some peeps. but i know they do the same, or someday they will help when i need a hand.

i was brought up to respect people and talk / treat them the way you would want to be treated.
if i go out on a limb for someone and they take the mick, i will let them know! lol ;) its normally the french that do this when i am at work, i dont blame them as a person, i just blame them for being french!

i never take things for granted now, like you said, life is far too short to mess about.

i really carnt see the point of all the hatred that is becoming more popular when religion is mentioned.
but thats life and there will always be people out there that are hell bent in creating havoc.

seems a very sexist religion towards women from what i know.

it is meant to be a peacefull religion but it must be open to terms due trying to justify terrorism / killings by using there religion ?

You interested in joining the Muslim faith Ads?

not really dude. whilst I consider myself more science orientated I've always found religion interesting. Particularly how it motivates people for good and in some extreme cases for bad.

Its a pity really, as someone who is a muslim is usually instantly stereotyped thanks to the media and events surrounding 9/11, when in fact its probably one of the religions that shows the most 'pride' if you like (cant think of a better word). I'll be honest I know very little bar the stuff I learnt at GCSE Religious Education, so watching the series for me was interesting in covering the fundamentals of its teachings.

I've only seen the start of this show and from what I saw I'm guessing people are becoming a muslim as they don't like their lifestyle. I don't agree with this, surely they should do it because they believe in that faith and not because they prefer the lifestyle? Correct me if I've got it wrong though!

Its not so much that dude (i dont think). The underlying message was that UK Society is in a bit of a mess... Look at town centres on a friday and saturday night, look at the attitude of some football fans, look at teen pregnancies etc etc.

The basis for the programme was whether a very disciplined faith such as Islam could kerb the social problems in the UK by applying its teachings to a few people (from a very middles class area - harrogate) and observing the outcome.

Really wanted to watch this but ended up watching last weeks spooks instead before the final episode.

Is it repeated?

hope so. I missed the first episode and the last 15mins of the last show

the muslim faith if followed correctful is a very peacful faith
totally man. Same with christianity and judaism and more, you only have to look at Israel and 1970's Northern Ireland to see that all religions are open to interpretation which causes a lot of fuck ups.

I agree to a point. Although at the same time I glad it did air, as I suspect a lot of people (like me) wouldnt have got an appreciation for the faith otherwise.

good thread so far guys. keep it up

I saw it advertised the other night actually made me a little mad.

I no this may come over as racist but its not ment to. Why should they put things like that on T.V. ? I have nothing against the people or there religion at all but dont see why it should be put on T.V. Like i think its wrong that there are news papers just different religions in that particular languae .
If i went to live in a forign country i would expect to fit in with there way of life ie speak there lingo do as they do etc etc etc not expect that country or its people to change for me.

For me the imigration system is well out of order, why give them a house to live, money etc etc when we have thousends of British people living in shop doorways etc etc i just find this hard to grasp how we can let people live like that.

Also think people veiws on this subject depends a lot where you live
In the likes of Bradford Leeds Oldham etc there are huge Asian communitys and this right or wrong this causes a lot of trouble for the people around that area. This will affect peoples thought etc

I haven't got a clue about different religions. I myself am completely atheist and try to stay away from to much religion.

I don't feel anything bad towards religious people though. If they can find happiness in believing in something good for them :)

Why can't people of different cultures have different newspapers to what you read? Why can't they recieve aid when you onlt want british people to?

Thats discriminating against people for their race!

Barry123

also as far as I was aware, people of other faiths can work and choose to work. In fact its a teaching to work and contribute to society rather than sponge off it.

I think you will find i never said they shouldnt receive aid i have no problem with that. Or them living here or anything.

My only point is if they or anyone lives in this country why shouldnt they adapt to our culture not us bending over to accomadate them in ours.
Before long there will be no such thing as being British whats wrong with me wanting to keep some of our own culture

this is a point i agree with tbh, if u move to a country for a better life etc.. then you should either accept their way of life or live the way you want to without trying to change other peoples, alot of 'muslims' complain about how things are done here and want things changed to suit them, its not just muslims that do it, but they tend to complain about things alot more.

for example, near me theres a strong jewish area, the head of the jew community wanted the council to build a wall(yea a wall) around the whole county so that it was for jews only!!!, luckyly the council told them to sod off, but imagine the chaos that would have caused if it was approved.

i also think alot of people opinions depend on areas in which they live and the types of other cultures they have met.

im not religious i drink, smoke and allsorts but i would like to be able to be a good muslim one day as its all about peace, dignity and respect at the end of the day and i think thats all the program is trying to show.
