View Full Version : Antisocial Texting

vidal
20th December 2007, 10:33
Following on from the texting while driving thread.

How many of you are "anti-social texters"? Sat with friends or family, conversation flowing, a good time to be at one with people you love and care for. Then....

...gentle beep, scurry for the phone and studiously ignore everyone around you, whilst giving your fingers a work out on the keypad.

This really pisses me off. Anyone else feel at times that your second best to a phone? Anyone willing to admit that they put answering a text above family and friends?

I turn it off when with the family and/or girl friend. I think its incredibly rude if your sat having a nice dinner or just a get together and the theme from Outrun all of sudden rings out from my pocket!

My phone is always on silent so I never know when anyone is txting/calling me unless i can see the phone which is usually if I'm alone. So if I'm with someone else I can't be rude and txt away.
Do hate it when folk pay more attention to their phone than you though. I have a friend who is constantly txting, we have all told her its rude to when having a good laugh with mates but she carries on regardless. Then after she is finished txting she is constantly checking her phone waiting for the reply, still paying no attention to her mates.

I think it is rude to txt whilst midway through conversation with someone, but I have done it a couple of times. The annoying thing is if you try to ignore the text message then my phone keeps reminding me with constant beeps every other minute until I read the text :(

Possibly rude is too strong a word, but if you have taken the time, effort and money to be with someone, whether it's just friends, or someone more special, imagine how they feel when you say to them "actually, I don't think enough of you to delay answering my texts".

My problem is drifting away more than txting. I could be involved in a conversation and half way thru stop listening completely. I can txt and talk at the same time. But most of the time i txt and day dream at the same time. I love day dreaming its great fun. My mum goes crazy if anyone answers their phone at dinner but apart from that doesnt really bother anyone.
