Headgasket has gone... just in time for xmas!

Was just wondering is it cheaper to buy something off the net and if so wheres the best place/website. the mechanic who looks after my car works opposite me and he only charges me what he pays for stuff, so if his trade price will be cheaper than something of ebay (for example), i'll just let him sort it out!

I reckon ure best just getting the mechanic to do the repairs and get the parts mate. Its one hell of a job!! shood set ya back at least 250 quid like.

yeh know its gonna cost abit, altho he said £150 if all goes well, but if needs skimming or anythign else he said max will be £200.

Had mine done 2 weeks ago, parts cost about £40, labour brings it to about 150-200..rip off

had mines done recently. cost me 180quid but i supplied the gasket. cost me 40 odd quid for the gasket. quite alot off work involved.

Needs new headgasket and head bolts circa £50. If its warped (did it over heat) then it'll be about £30 - £40 for a skim. Then the cost of labour on top

yeh ive had some overheating problems, gauge goes up to 3/4 then drops down to half. not got white mayo in engine head yet, and have had the sniff test done or whatever its called to test for any gases but thats was fine, i've just got a an oil leak from head of engine which is gradually getting worse. hopefully going to try and get over xmas without it getting too serious (fingers crossed) and have booked car in to get headgasket done as soon as i get back to work next year!

i have the same problem :( one day i'll have heating next i dont, i'm loosing coolant, theres oil leaking from somewhere around the back of the head too i think...joy :)
