hi, please can someone help???

i was driving my car back from work the other night and it cut out and failed to restart.

at first i thought it maybe the cambelt but i have checked that and i took the cam cover off and everything seems fine. when i try to turn it on, it sounds like the engine is spinning but doesnt really try to start. i have changed the battry aswell because i thought it may not be holding its charge.

a light did come on whilst i was driving it im not sure what it meant. its like a backwards 7 with 2 lines through it. but i think that that came on just because it was the first ligh to come on as it was cutting out

the car is a saxo 1.4 on a t reg.

any help would be much apreciated. thanks

also check all the connectors on the inlet.

have a check in ur manual to see if there is a light that looks like the one u saw flash up..

hi, yeah i can hear the fuel pump buzzing when i turn the ignition on. i didnt hit a bump. i have tried pressing the cut off switch a few times. (the red one near the brake cervo?)

when i turn the key its kind of a whining sound its quite difficult to explain.

Ok that symbol I believe is the oil level warning light!!

If its not turning over you could have seized the engine.

Check the oil level see if there is any in there.

Also if you have the cambelt cover off there is a large nut on the end get a spanner to it and try turning the engine over (slowly) by hand see if it will move, this will tell you if it is seized.

dont jump to drastically. also check the wires to the crankshaft position sensor. these perish badly and ive had to rewire a few which have had your symptoms. cutting out and not restarting but if you go back to it in a day or so it might start.
