I took my car for a drive to check the fumes coming from the rear. After I pulled over I began to drive off on a clear road.

I changed to second and began to accelerate next thing I know the accelerator got jammed and began to Rev very loudly. I went to pull it back up but it got stuck, so panicking I switched off the engine. In the middle of the road I eventually got help after around 20 cars drove past with the occasional odd "it's just a saxo driver look" (I just wanted a push to the pavement for christ sake!)

In the end after i was calming down, a man told me that what had happened was that the spring (?) that releases the accelerator got jammed and probably just needs WD40.

Now my engines is grubby (im being honest here) and has seen better days, I was going to get it steam cleaned in the new year for a present for the car  but should i really WD40 all the springs?

Any say on what actually happened this evening? And any adive on how to prevent it in the future?

might be worth checking the accelerator cable mate. lift the bonnet and check its all free moving. otherwise it could be frayed and it isnt allowing it to move freely. wd40 would help lubricate things

Does it all the time :y: nothing to worry about I hope.

Just gunna get her completely steam cleaned in the new year and replace the oil filter, and get everything nice and lubricated up! ;)

If the accelerator cable goes all the way down to the floor, doesnt return and feels very loose id be inclined to say that your throttle cable may have snapped- this happened to me this year.

If the pedal still feels stiff and is sticking a bit before returning back to normal position then this would probably be your spring.
